Homeland Security can seize your Laptop at the border...
Customs and Border Patrol at the Department of Homeland Security was just given the green light to search and seize laptops at the border, without probable cause, by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. They can deny entry to anyone who refuses to give up their laptops and password. This is an affront to our progressive values of privacy and protection from unwarranted search and seizure.

2. That is why I travel with my iPod Touch now
And access via the internet for most things.

I have heard other companies send old laptops and connect via Remote Desktop or Citrix to the company network and keep all information off the HD. Some also send "suicide CDs" that tries to zero out as much data many times over in case anything does get on the HD.

3. I keep all my important info at home on backup hard drives. I wipe it when I travel
or access public internet. I dont carry information, just the machine.

Let DHS open my laptop it would look empty (aside from tunes and reading materials when I travel)

7. New company policy,
When we are returning to the United States if we have had client data on our notebook PC's we are supposed to run a special CD to permanently erase the hard drive and then we have a second CD that loads a generic unthreatening looking Windows install complete with a picture of the IT guys kids as wallpaper and school assignments.

We had a laptop seized a while ago because the user didn't have the administrative password for the machine.

8. All the paranoia is on the side of Chertoff working for Cheney. They don't
want anyone coming here with data to use in testimony related to any of this admins crimes. And they don't want anyone encroaching on their territory of nuclear sales and other stuff they sell. It'a all about them wiping out their competition.

If we are able to get the slime out of the WH or if they come tumbling down through their one actions - which rules and rulings will be reversed. That's the question?
