I was wondering about the gold in Fort Knox...
and started looking at how much was said to be there and what it is worth.

If there is 147 million ounces there, and it could be sold for 900 dollars an ounce...

My abacus says 132 trillion dollars could be raised. Am I even near the truth ?

Our budget is around 3 trillion every year, our national debt is almost 10 trillion.

are bars of gold painted lead. On edit, I think maybe we are on to something here. What if the oil in the "strategic reserve" in not there. That would could be why they are so against letting some of it out.

4. The problem would be getting the $900 per oucne
If the US flooded the market with Gold, the price would plummet.

10. Better check your calculations again
147,000,000 multiplied by 900 is nowhere close to being even 1 trillion, much less 132 trillion. It's more like 132 billion-- barely enough to cover a few weeks of the budget.
