NYT Confirms "The Bombshell" But Makes You Work For it
Edited on Sun Jul-20-08 10:47 PM by kpete
NYT buries the truth pretty far down in a misleading article called:

Iraqi Premier Steps Back on U.S. Troops Comment

By SABRINA TAVERNISE and JEFF ZELENY
Published: July 21, 2008

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/21/us/politics/21obama.html?_r=2&hp&oref=slogin&oref=slogin

But the interpreter for the interview works for Mr. Maliki’s office, not the magazine. And in an audio recording of Mr. Maliki’s interview that Der Spiegel provided to The New York Times, Mr. Maliki seemed to state a clear affinity for Mr. Obama’s position, bringing it up on his own in an answer to a general question on troop presence.

The following is a direct translation from the Arabic of Mr. Maliki’s comments by The Times: "Obama’s remarks that — if he takes office — in 16 months he would withdraw the forces, we think that this period could increase or decrease a little, but that it could be suitable to end the presence of the forces in Iraq."

He continued: "Who wants to exit in a quicker way has a better assessment of the situation in Iraq."

1. Since when did anything that Maliki said make any difference anyway?
He might as well try his hand at turning lead bars into gold ones.

2. Of course it's buried pretty far down.
Obama's a democrat. The "Liberal Media" can't come right out and say anything that might favor Obama. But if Mr. Malika has instead favored McSame it's almost certain that it would be trumpetted in the headlines above the fold.

I don't understand how the media can have such obvious double standards. For example, look how they ignore McSame's history of cheating and lying about his relationships and compare that to how they treat any democrat. Why don't they just come right out and admit that they are campaigning behind the scenes for the republicans.

Of course, if they admitted that then they'd be forced to stop. By pretending to be objective they can keep campaigning and get away with it.
