The shocking truth about "Operation: Desert Storm"
http://deoxy.org/wc/warcrime.htm

(snippet) "It has never happened in history that a nation that has won a war has been held accountable for atrocities committed in preparing for and waging that war. We intend to make this one different. What took place was the use of technological material to destroy a defenseless country. From 125,000 to 300,000 people were killed... We recognize our role in history is to bring the transgressors to justice." Ramsey Clark

5. sounds familiar
That was on his last HBO special, wasn't it? I'm not so sure what to make of Lewis, but he cracks me up. I even read his little autobiography. It was very funny. (Of course.) :hi:

6. I never looked at our troops in Iraq as heroes...
I look at the troops as unfortunate people who were, by circumstance or coerced by patriot fervor, led into doing a dangerous job.

The way and they whys this current and the previous gulf war was (is)prosecuted leads me to believe we should call the people on oil riggers and those who work at oil refineries heroes as well.

Now in Afghanistan, there was an heroic call.

9. At least the process of going after Osama...
Afghanistan was harboring Osama.

I think they might have given him up if we gave them half the chance.

Remember Jesse Jackson wanted to go there and talk to the Taliban about Osama. Bush put the kibosh on that one. Perhaps the Taliban would have given him up to Jackson in order to punch Bush in the eye.

11. Okay, I don't understand.

What is this "International War Crimes Tribunal?" What is its jurisdiction, if any? Does it have any enforcement power? If not, who does? Who can actually bring *enforceable* charges of war crimes when the perpetrators are those in power?

I am not asking this to in any way criticize the report in the OP, but it was the first I'd heard of it. I would have thought that if this had had any clout, it would have been major news world-wide.

I'm asking these questions because I'd really like to know what legal avenues exist for a realistic way by which those who perpetrated atrocities in our name in Iraq will be held accountable.

12. 1991? Ramsey Clark? Come on now...
this is all very interesting, but somehow I feel like I'm back at an A.N.S.W.E.R. rally.
