gross.... "WSJ: Hannity inks $100 million deal"
this isn't confirmed, and wouldn't be the first time the WSJ got something wrong, but I could just see this being true. Hate sells.

WSJ: Hannity inks $100 million deal

Rush Limbaugh isn't the only one getting a lucrative new radio deal. The Wall Street Journal reports that Sean Hannity will have a fat new paycheck, too.

In a novel deal, two of the nation's biggest radio companies are teaming together to syndicate one of the nation's biggest radio stars.

Conservative political commentator Sean Hannity, whose talk show is second only to Rush Limbaugh's program, will be distributed through both Citadel Broadcasting Corp.'s ABC Networks, his current radio home, and Clear Channel Communications Inc.'s Premiere Radio Networks. ABC will continue syndicating the show to Citadel-owned stations. Starting in December, Clear Channel will syndicate the show everywhere else.

Limbaugh's deal was reported in the $400 million range over eight years. So what's Hannity pulling in?

The companies didn't disclose financial terms, but a person familiar with the matter says Mr. Hannity was offered in the region of $100 million over five years. On top of that, Mr. Hannity will participate in profits from the show. The figure represents a significant premium over Mr. Hannity's current compensation.

Understand How The Money Is Made...
Most of today's radio stations are nothing but satellite downlinks...many offering only a few hours in the morning of local programming. The rest of the day they rely on the corporate networks to fill the time. The lower the cost, the better...and joining a network run by Premier (a division of Clear Channel) how its done. The game here is to get your hate radio show on as many stations and that's the way the money is made.

Clear Channel will go to advertising agencies and show that a specific show in on 300 or 600 stations and ask for the coin based on the volume...they use the "potential" number of people the show can reach vs. the actual number listening (most talk stations have dismal ratings) and the kick back a few pennies to the local station...(many that are owned by Clear Channel) who are getting money for virtually nothing. A nice racket and the only way these companies can make money these days.

I'm also curious how much of this deal is cash vs. stock and options. Many times the money disclosed includes those options that could become worthless if the company's stock or holdings are liquidated.

3. This just means that they know Obama will win in November
They wouldn't be dumping hundreds of millions on their pet demagogues if they didn't think that there wouldn't soon be a Democratic President and Congress to undermine.

8. If not for Bill Clinton, Rush would be back working as a per-diem DJ at some jerkwater station
Instead, he's taken seriously by a distressing portion of our society, and he is paid very, very well to act like a righteous and outraged asshole.

6. Please sing this to the tune of "Oh, Dear, What Can the Matter Be?"
Oh, Dear! What Can The matter be?
(By DFW--send me to Guantánamo, I won't stop!)

Oh, dear! What can the matter be?
My T V has Sean Hannity
It’s the same old insanity
Mostly just good for a scare

They promised their ranting would be fair and balanced
Assaulting my eardrums with forethought and malice
They promised to give us some serious stories
But FOX is more than I can bear

Oh, dear! What can the matter be?
Bill O’Reilly’s huge vanity,
Big and fat like a manatee,
Tell him the truth if you dare!

They say that their drivel resembles reporting
I wonder what kind of white powder they’re snorting?
Or what’s the deception to which they’re resorting
To make us think round holes are square?

Oh dear! What can the matter be?
Half truths, lies and profanity
FOX deceives all humanity
I’d rather sleep in my chair!

10. All these multimillion dollar deals for RW pundits = Democratic President
Nobody would be paying Rush and Hannity this kind of cash if they expected another four years of Republican rule. It's really that simple.

They expect Obama to be elected, which would then naturally swell the listener base of the supposedly disaffected. The longer a Republican president is in office, the more the rating of clowns like this drop off, since their whole swindle is to pretend that they are "oppressed." It's yet another sign of their utter callousness that their personal interests conflict so much with what they say and what they want their listeners to believe.

12. I Don't Believe This Deal Either
I think both the uneducated roofer and the undereducated drug addict both signed deals with huge incentive clauses, worth up to those amounts, but at incentive targets that will never be reached.

Then the PR machine can spin it as if they're still so relevant and important that they can command this kind of cash.

My guess (stictly a guess) is that neither of them will ever see more than 40% of the published amounts.

13. I wonder if they really think that keeping these horses' asses on the big payroll will help them
Do they really think the ultra-conservative can make a comeback? After all this s***. I am betting they are banking on the short-term memories of American voters...but were not talking about about post Bush I. We're talking about Bush II leaving a "Carteresque legacy."

Although he is about fifty times worse than Carter ever was as a president and has nowhere near the humanity and compassion that Carter possesses.
