It has been 5 days plus 6 days since Rove was given 5 days to respond
On Thursday, July 10, Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers issued a 'stern' warning to Karl Rove's attorney, Robert Luskin: "This letter is to formally notify you that we must insist on compliance with the subpoena and urge you to reconsider your position... . Please let us know no later than Tuesday July, 15 if Mr. Rove will comply with the subpoena, or we will proceed to consider all other appropriate recourse."

The last I'm aware of that anyone has seen Karl, he was in Virginia Beach, Virginia on Friday, July 18 for a fundraiser and did not seem in imminent danger of any recourse, unless he requested seconds on the lobster.

Rove had attempted to defend his failure to respond to the subpoena by claiming that he's offered lawmakers "other ways to question him" about allegations of political pressure at the Justice Department. If you or I tried to email a traffic court judge that we wouldn't be appearing in court to answer a reckless driving charge because we had chosen to exercise our 5th Amendment rights, Sheriff's deputies would be knocking on the front door shortly after we hit the 'Enter' key to send the message.

How many more stern letters or unmet deadlines will this criminal be given before something resembling justice is served, Mr. Conyers?

3. It might be a while before Rep. Conyers responds to your question.
He's busy searching for the gonads he thinks he used to have, but is no longer certain about. I think Nancy Pelosi has them locked up in her office safe until further notice. :(

This is such a puppet show gov't. No one will EVER be held accountable for what they did.

So much for our moral authority at Nuremberg.

5. Rove will not be held to account by this congress, dem control or no....
This congress is, for the most part, complicit in the neocon agenda. Don't hold your breath expecting them to do the peoples' business if it conflicts with the interests of their corporate and political masters.

7. What if all citizens treated
subpoenas as a suggestion rather than a requirement? So much for the rule of law. THese are not optional anywhere except in Bush World. My ADA kid said it would be a very bad thing if someone refused to comply with a subpoena in his world.

Arrest the asshole? This is about the rule of law.

11. This would certainly go a long way, assuming they have the override votes
But simply enforcing existing law, even if it requires using inherent contempt (which apparently it will in this case), is all that is needed.

12. Talk is cheap
They need to take action and do it NOW! It's no wonder republicans try and paint the democrats as weak on security, I mean hell then can 't even take on the republicans, how can they claim to be "tough" on things like national security? I can't stand the republicans, but they seem to know how to make the democrats back down, and that's not good in the eyes of the voters!

If the stuck Rove in one of those basements cells for a few months, it would not only show the republicans they mean what they say, but it would help the people of this country see the mean business. Backing down every time the Bush gang refused to respond to their subpoena isn't doing a thing to show backbone, or to show they are serious about taking on the corruption in the Bush administration.

What's most likely is that they are complicit, and the whole thing is just a show to shut the people up. They do whatever their corporate masters tell them to do.

Is it not yet clear to you that there will be
*NO INDIVIDUAL CONSEQUENCES* for the bad behavior
of the members of this administration?

(There *MAY* be consequences for the Republican
Party and there have *CERTAINLY* been consequences
for the nation as-a-whole.)

23. Congress ought to be very offended by this
On principle alone, even the republicans. This was what the Founders thought would happen and how they figured no one branch could predominate, because the others would want their power too. Congress these days seems to let the Executive get away with so much the founders must be spinning in their graves. Maybe it is that polling that shows Congress is even less popular than *?

31. Jamie Lee Curtis in "Halloween"
She keeps getting attacked. She keeps getting lucky. She keeps dropping the knife.

She gets attacked again. She whimpers and slobbers. She gets lucky and the killer looks dead -- again.

She drops the knife again.

She gets attacked again. She whines and cries and begs. She gets lucky. The killer looks dead.

One of these days, she won't be lucky.

Our Party has proven they are incapable of any action that requires a spine and would prefer to roll over for the Pukes and get their tummies rubbed like good little doggies.

I'm fed up with them and feel like an asshole for defending them and trusting them. I'm sorry to anyone I bitched out for criticizing them in over the last couple years. I was wrong. You were right.
