'NYT' Rejects McCain Op-Ed On Obama Column
By Joe Strupp, editorandpublisher.com

NEW YORK The New York Times rejected an Op-Ed piece written by John McCain that defends his Iraq war policy and responds to a Barack Obama column published in the paper last week, CNN.com reported.

In a story on its Web site, CNN stated that "in an e-mail to the McCain campaign, Opinion Page Editor David Shipley said he could not accept the piece as written, but would be 'pleased, though, to look at another draft.'”

“Let me suggest an approach,” Shipley reportedly added. “The Obama piece worked for me because it offered new information (it appeared before his speech); while Senator Obama discussed Senator McCain, he also went into detail about his own plans. It would be terrific to have an article from Senator McCain that mirrors Senator Obama's piece.”

Shipley and Editorial Page Editor Andrew Rosenthal could not be reached by E&P for comment Monday. Shipley is reportedly on vacation.

1. The hatewing radio talkingheads have been squealling like stuck-pigs all day
over this.

Even made at least one of the network nightly newscasts, ABC iirc.

2. This will give McCainiacs a chance to complain.....
about the New York Times...

The NYT should have just published McCain's drivel on Saturday when no body reads the paper.

Now, the McCainiacs and the Repugs will have three days worth of complaints about the media.

Then again, it will make McCain supporters look like a bunch of whiners, which they are...

3. It was on CNN today
I'm in the States for a while. Jack Cafferty had the perfect answer for the two
right wing women shouting at him. No matter WHAT National Hate Radio may whine
about this, Cafferty pointed out, correctly ,that while McCain keeps saying we
need to "win" in Iraq, he has not yet said just WHAT "winning" means. If he can't
spell that out, complaining that Obama has less "experience" than he has is not worth
a NYT op-ed. Cafferty, as well as the NYT, got it right. National Hate Radio got it
wrong. Raise your hand if you are flabbergasted at the prospect.
