Was it food poisoning I got last Sat nite
and am still trying to recover from?

I had a sandwich at my neighborhood Subway last Sat nite. Seemed OK at the time. Went home had a couple drinks and within five hours was stuck with horrible vomiting and awful stomach pains that didn't relent until this morning - the pains, that is = though violent vomiting immediately followed my ingestion of ANYTHING, even water, for 24 hours after eating that sandwich. Accompanying were alternating bouts of freezing and feeling like was an an oven Today I held down some water and frozen yogurt but I''m definitely not completely recovered. Sound like salmonella to anyone?

Bad veggies is my best guess - any thoughts?

6. No, there was a sign up that they'd pulled jalapenos
and there was no mayo; I always get salt, black pepper and oil. The lettuce seemed a little off, though, looking back.

3. Sounds more like a stomach flu to me
but symptoms resemble food poisoning as well. Hard to tell a lot of times.

i got it from a greek salad (the hummus i believe) & lost 5 lbs. in 2 days. i went down for the count within 5 hours, too.

Staphylococcus aureus: Causes moderate to severe illness with rapid onset of nausea, severe vomiting, dizziness, and abdominal cramping. These bacteria produce a toxin in foods such as cream-filled cakes and pies, salads (most at risk are potato, macaroni, egg, and tuna salads, for example) and dairy products. Contaminated salads at picnics are common if the food is not chilled properly.

Usually, it takes 24 hours for food poisoning to even start.

I think it's more likely it was something you had on friday, or earlier.

Of course, I'm no gastroenterologist.

I have an incredible immune system and I always think I am bulletproof.

So I take all kinds of chances, eat in places that no sane person would venture into.

And I have known that I was poisoned by the end of the meal on two occasions. On one of those occasions, I thought I might just die.

It depends on what you are eating, how long it has been since the meal before, and how "hot" is the food you are eating.

13. If food poisoning occurs rather rapidly...
then the toxin would have been in the food to begin with, which means the food probably would have been rather "off."

The OP said the sandwich seemed OK, so I think it was probably something else.

I delight in wild-tasting food, and both instances were wild-ass seafood concoctions (gumbo and sopa de mares).

Hell, I was probably swilling some serious toxins.

I doubt I will ever learn.

Food poisoning is typically 12 or so hours of hell, but then it resolves.

Parasites happen more frequently nowadays. And the drug they give you is Cipro, which has side effects that are as bad as having the parasite.

I had it once - it was close to what you describe - except for the relentless vomiting and diarrhea. Lasted about 24 hours. Don't remember the freezing/oven thing you describe. So perhaps the flu suggested earlier makes sense.

I am sure mine was food poisoning as 3 of the 4 eating some chili caught it. The 4th picked out the ground beef and did not have any.

May - it was bad.

of food-borne microbes (some do have shorter incubation periods). drink plenty of water (maybe with some electrolytes) to stay hydrated. get well.

Sounds like gastrointeritis, likely caused by the norovirus. Symptoms start several hours after infection (salmonella usually shows symptoms sooner, within an hour or two) and can last upwards of 36 to 48 hours, with a recovery period of several days. Most of the problems stem from the way the body protects itself: the norovirus attacks the lining of the intestine, so the body will just slough it off. The first round of pain is caused by the mechanism of how this is done and the need to get everything out of the way so as to prevent reinfection. The secondary pain that can last several days is because, well, you have a lot of exposed tissue until the lining grows back.

21. Weird. My daughter came down with similar symptoms Sat afternoon
here in California. Couldn't keep liquids or food down and became severely dehydrated. Spent last night in hospital and will likely be there tonight getting IV fluids and trying to rebalance electrolytes. Bad news. They think viral but are conducting several other tests to look for other things.

Read up on possible causes...drink as much as you can...you're supposed to avoid dairy with salmonella I think. If you aren't taking in as much as you're putting out for any length of time you may need to head down and get admitted. Don't know your age, but electrolyte imbalance and dehydration can be serious.

And if it is salmonella be careful since it is highly contagious.

Good luck. I sympathize...my daughter said Sunday was the worst day of her life...pretty miserable.

23. You won't know unless you get to a dr. and have some specimens
tested. (Loads of fun, that, let me tell you! You get a handy take-home kit!)

Could be, but it could be a host of other things, too. And there's a really good chance that you'll heal up ok on your own. I'd take it really easy on the diet - get enough fluids and keep everything else very light (toast, applesauce, etc.). If you aren't improving, then you probably should call a dr.

24. Ate a Milky Way and a decent sized helping of
Stonyfield Farms organic vanilla fudge swirl nonfat frozen yogurt :9 and feel much better. Will continue w/water and electrolyte drinks. Don't want to repeat the last 48 hours.
