Bear cub with burned paws rescued from Calif. wildfire. PICS:
These are the forgotten victims of wildfires. I can only imagine how many animals suffered agonizing deaths from burns. It's cool that a firefighter helped save this little bear.

WARNING: The second photo shows his burned paw.

Burned cub Lil' Smokey listed as critical in Tahoe

A bear cub with horribly burned paws that was saved by a state firefighter was in critical condition Monday at a South Lake Tahoe wildlife care center.

The 8.5-pound, 6-month-old black bear cub is undergoing treatment at Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care, a licensed facility that rehabilitates and releases injured wild birds and animals.

Cheryl Millham, founder and executive director of the center, was hopeful the bear named Lil' Smokey would be okay.

Millham credited firefighter Adam Deem, who found the bear in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest west of Redding last Thursday, with saving the bear's life.

1. Sweetie pie. Anthropomorphic hugs and kisses, and a new Smoky has risen.
Looks like a good long life in store for this one.

Many tweats is my prescription.

Yes, I know, it belongs in the wilds. Like the dogs I sleep with every night.

So humor me. I spend way too much on animal rescue organizations, and this one has been saved, and could be very important in introducing a new generation to Smokey, who did good things.

I'm reading, he's far from out of the woods, so to speak.

Fortunately the little guy wasn't burned over large parts of his body.
