ENVIRONMENTAL DISASTER

If there was ever any doubt, recent events prove that George W. Bush is the best friend the petroleum industry ever had. Oil prices are up about $100 per barrel, while gas prices have about tripled since the Supreme Court appointed him president. Meanwhile, our dependency on foreign oil from terror-sponsoring nations has only increased while our security has decreased. Bush’s response is to demand oil drilling in the waters off the Florida coast in the middle of hurricane alley. Is maybe bringing down gas prices a few pennies by the year 2030 worth a Katrina-like potential environmental disaster when the oil companies already have millions of acres of undrilled land? The oil companies have also systemically closed about two-thirds of their refineries in order to drive up the price of oil and gas. It is no wonder that the Saudi prince was holding Bush’s hand like a schoolgirl with a crush, George is great for their business .
