Not that anyone will discuss oil or energy, but I'll try anyways. http://www.cspan.org/watch/cs_cspan3_wm.asp?Cat=TV&Code=CS3

4. One thing is for sure. |
|
Whatever T. Boone Pickens is doing I know that my pockets are going to be substantially lighter and He has figured out a way to make His, and his cronies, pockets substantially heavier. I am also sure that whatever he is up to will require substantial financing from the taxpayers and as little investment on his part as possible. Just saying.

5. So, there's absolutely no merit to his attempt to provide |

clean, renewable energy as far as you are concerned?

12. I think the "merit" is that he wants to make money. |
|
That's OK but this fellow has shown himself to be less than honest in the past.

18. news flash. Corporations will never get onboard to promote |
|
alternatives until they can line their coffers with more gold. it's sad but true.

6. My first thought on seeing his commercial is that he's got natural gas and wind deals cornered |
|
and now he wants financial backing. Oh well, at least it will help the planet.

7. I think he is on the hook for around a billion |
|
so I think that will put him substantially lighter in the short term. And when you are 80 it is pretty dangerous to count on a long term.

I most certainly do. T. Boone is The King of The Oil Field Trash. Know it. I also find his "Road to Damascus" conversion to Peak Oil quite interesting.
I have long felt that Peak Oil was being used by those who stand to make a lot of money, in the short and medium term, from psyops. Yes, I think that they planned it out, because it was a non-issue for oil men for a long time. They scoffed, even Pickens.

15. Let's just say I'm a little skeptical. |
|
Edited on Tue Jul-22-08 10:27 AM by Bonhomme Richard
By the way, my partner and I developed a new design for something that's used in the nacelle, that enclosure at the top of the wind turbine, and it looks like a billion dollar company is going to use our design, so.........It is in my best interest that wind power advances. Having said that, I am skeptical of Pickens...just saying.

8. T Boone is a slimy oil guy like Cheney/Bush |
|
Everything he advances has been discussed before by others. He is getting the attention now because everyone knows he's a brazen asshole out to make himself look like the good guy now that he has raped our pockets the last 8+ years. Snake oil salesman.
He talks the talk, but never walked the walk.

I don't care if he makes some money out of it. If he can prod congress to start doing something, anything, I will be ok with it.

14. I'm fine with doing everything it takes save what's left and reverse |
|
some of the damage, but this 'holier than thou' attitude he is all of a sudden taking is bullshit posturing and chafes my butt.
I've spent a career in the environmental protection business having to fight these Bush bots to minimize impacts, but they don't listen, they don't care. He sees the writing on the wall with Obama coming in, so he is changing his stripes to blend in.
If people want to commend him for investing his bucks in energy endeavors, other than oil, then fine. But don't put this putz, who is just another converted money-grubbing polluta-holic, on a pedestal he doesn't deserve.

bail out of this thread because it's occupied by at least one dick.
Unfortunately, in order to draw your abuse, I had to surf into the thread from My DU to respond to a post and neglected to check to see if I bailed the thread first.
At least I didn't make a huge self-stroking "Farewell DU" speech only to come back time and time again.

22. So fuck him, because he hasn't been at it as long as you? |
|
That's bullshit. "Better late than never." Corporations will never, I repeat, NEVER do "the right thing" for the environment just because it's the right thing. They will do whatever is best for their bottom line. If Pickens has a plan to make eco-friendly energy alternatives profitable, more "power" to him.
Unless, that is, you want to ban all private enterprise and have the government do everything.
