Pressure builds to send Karl Rove to jail
With the House Judiciary Committee planning a hearing Friday on the Bush administration's use of executive privilege, public pressure is building to urge the committee to jail Karl Rove, the Bush White House political maestro.

A coalition of organizations gathered 80,000 signatures on a petition calling on the committee to hold Rove in contempt for his refusal to obey its subpoena. Brave News Films, author of an earlier Internet effort to kick Joseph Lieberman out of the Democratic Party after his endorsement of Republican John McCain, released its petition, Send Karl Rove to Jail, in hopes of compelling Rove to testify under oath about his involvement in the prosecution of former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman.

4. The Corporate Media Still Shelters Him

And I don't just mean Faux...but the entire "establishment". He must still have some interesting 8 x 10 glossies in his dossier. The media still thinks this man is powerful and quiver at his mere presence...(right David Gregory???).

The interesting thing is how the Rover has been laying low since he skipped out on his subpoena. And also how quiet his friend in the corporate media are. It's not like if it were a Democrat...then for sure we'd hear about how he was a fugutive and would hound and hound until he relented. There's be a 12 part exposee in the Washington Post (oops that's Gary Condit), endless calls on CNN for him to appear before the HJC and hate radio would howl endlessly about all the things he had to hide. But since it's Rover, IOKIYAR.

While I doubt they have the "cajones"...I'd love to see inherent contempt thrown at the bastard and he's frogmarched into the Capitol basement...(with Joe Wilson doing the play-by-play), but I think there's a bigger game at play here. As I've said in the past, I'm convinced Rove is daring to be indicted...and then his buddy georgie can swoop in and pardon him and preventing him from having to appear in any court proceeding. I think Conyers and others know this as well and don't want to really go after him until after boooshie is gone. In the meantime, one hopes the noise against Rove continues to rise.

Ultimately I think Rove's ego will be his own undoing. Without the power he once had, he'll have less friends to hide behind and if the GOOP loses big this fall, someone's gonna have to take the fall...

8. The Way To Get Him Is To Squeeze Up

It's the game Fitz plays real well...and I get a feeling he's spoiling for another crack at Rover...as well as several other current and former prosecutors. Not a good thing to piss off these people.

The game will be to "squeeze up"...or to put the pinch on lower echelon aparachniks who then in turn will cop pleas and turn in a bigger fish. It's time consuming and frustrating, but it's always extremely effective. It was this technique that brought down George Ryan's patronage game and sent him to jail...but it also took 5 years for it all to play out.

Right now you have a lot of underlings who remain hidden behind this all-intrusive "executive privilidge" that has all but shut down any real investigation, so why move too far forward when you keep running into brick walls and umpires throwing sand in your eyes. While that wand can be waived now, it won't be after 1/20/09 and why show your hand at this point when you get a better shot to go after him and others later? It's a true shit sandwich...but if we're gonna take this criminal and all the others down, it's gonna take time, but in the end I have faith in our system that he'll be brought to face justice...his luck will run out.

17. Living in Chicago, I'm familiar with what Fitzgerald has accomplished

in putting away corrupt politicians of both parties and mob chieftains. Neither he nor his prosecutorial team are easily intimidated, to nail Republican Governor George Ryan, mob-connected contractor Jimmy Duff, and illegal patronage chief Bob Sorich in THIS town, you have to have cojones!

That may have worked in 19th century England, but here in the 21st century, US politicians seem to have formed a soft, squishy and impenetrable legal cocoon around themselves.

And that even extends to the mere underlings of the modern-day perps.

Look at all the legal ordnance aimed at Fitzgerald for a simple case of perjury of a minor govt. official such as Scooter.

In the end, they unleashed the "atomic bomb" of legal defences. a Presidential clemency for crimes committed.

21. Justice Isn't Just Politicians

I suspect that there will be many law suits in years ahead as ramifications of the draconian games this regime has played...some, like the Wilson's suit, will do what spineless politicians can't....get discovery, evidence and prove guilt. Some of this may be played out in civil courts, others in criminal.

The big key is returning Justice to the Justice Department...routing out all the Monica Goodlings and turning it back into the indendent "fourth branch" that it used to serve as. Also to push for the appointment of a special prosecutor to handle the large backlog of cases sitting on Chairman Conyers and Waxman's desks.

Let's see how booshie plays it with his clemecy...or immunity. I have never expected much out of the politicians...but I do have a different standard when it comes to our judiciary or those who work in the legal profession...outside both the glare of the corporate media and political influences.

Too many people have been wronged by this regime...both domestically and internationally. I'll take my chance and hope that my faith in justice prevails. It will if others feel the same way and keep up the noise and pressure to get to the bottom of this regime's crimes...even after they're out of power.
