Interesting graphs about voters from Pew.

Draw your own conclusions. Mine are: If the Dems can't win in '08, they should disband and doing something that they are capable of when the deck is stacked in their favor. And, that Mrs. McCain should prepare for long sessions of macho whining from her husband.

1. The only way McCain wins is 270-268 ie very very close.
I read that pew research report last night. The good thing about 8 years of Bush is that it's created a generation of young democrats instead of young republicans.

I follow the race at 538.com. Better than electoral votes.com. Current polls projected into Nov results. O 292 M 246.

2. Demographic charts like these lead me to believe
that it really was that "greatest generation" who enabled the dismantling of the New Deal and the rise of the present robber barons.

Now that they're going rapidly, the right wing is going to fade as rapidly.

Oh, it will never go away. It'll just wait for the next bunch to swallow the snake oil in sufficient quantities to vote against the interest of the country.

3. Note the difference between 'Early Boomer' and 'Late Boomer'

I've repeatedly asserted that it's bad enough to lump millions of people together and teat them as 'types' ... but it's even worse to speak about 'Boomers' as though they're somehow very similar. They aren't. This has been obvious to me (a member of the 'Silent' generation) since ... well, forever. If an individual didn't face high school graduation with the Draft looming over them (or their boyfriends), they just don't fucking comprehend the necessity of making one's life plans in the face of that unknown. Marriage? Hardly. Job? Employers looked at draft status. College? Good idea ... but don't even fucking THINK about carrying less than a full-time schedule. How many people even know these days about trying to work their way through college ... and carry a full-time course load?? Not many.

I personally estimate that about 75% of the "anti-war" protesters were, in fact, only anti-draft. Liberals? No fucking way. Narrow self-interest is not a synonym for liberal.

4. I agree.
Most of the protesters I associated with were truly anti-war...including a number of Vietnam Vets. But, that was at a very left leaning community college followed by a very left leaning university.

I was, briefly, a draft-counselor. Almost all of the people I dealt with hardly mentioned the war and were simply trying to avoid the draft. Which was fine with me, but more than a little disappointing.

I was facing the draft when I graduated from H.S. No job, no money for an education, no home. But, I can't merely blame those things. I bought into "The Marine Corps Builds Men" utter bullshit. And, being a pimply faced, skinny, insecure, 17 year old...being a "Man" was downright appealing.

As I soon discovered, their were a helluva lot of pimply faced, skinny, kids looking for the same thing.

And, that the outfit was run by a bunch of ass-kissing elitists (in the real sense of the word) who were perfectly willing for me to make the "ultimate sacrifice" to advance their careers.

So, I spent 4 years counting the days and doing absolutely nothing to benefit humanity.
