My email to our local radio station that airs Michael Savage
I am writing to express my disgust over Michael Savage's remarks last week about autism.
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,387662,00.html

I am a special ed teacher and I can assure Mr Savage that autism is real. It is a devastating and often very crippling disability that is affecting more and more children around the world every day.

It is one thing to criticize and belittle public figures and politicians. But attacking children who are disabled and unable to defend themselves is deplorable.

I will admit I am not a fan of Mr Savage. I will also admit I don't listen to your station as I am not a fan of right wing talk radio. But I do buy products and services from your advertisers. I am going to start listening to your station and especially Savage's show and note the sponsors so I can contact them and tell them I will not give them any of my money as long as they sponsor a hate monger who attacks disabled children. I am encouraging my friends and family to do the same.

Michael Savage does not reflect the values of the people in this metropolitan area or of decent human beings. Please stop airing his show.

Sincerely,

5. He's also a complete f*cktard
While it's true that some conditions (like ADD, etc.) are being overdiagnosed out of greed, his statements on autism are just completely ignorant and uncalled-for.

If autism were, indeed, just a matter of brattiness, then he would be the poster boy for autism...because that jackass is tied with Rush Limpballs as the biggest brat on talk radio.

There's a special place in hell for people like this. Hopefully, it's a place where waterboarding is a common practice.

7. Even Better...Listen To The Station For Local Advertisers
Nothing gets a station manager's attention faster than a phone call from a "concerned" advertiser...especially after he/she has gotten a bunch of complaints and bad publicity based on their advertising on the station. And nothing will draw an advertiser's "concern" as when several dozen people show up at the store or call and express their "concerns"...especially since my bets are that advertiser doesn't get that much reaction to their advertising...especially on that show.

If you are going to write the station, be sure to put a cc on your letter for the Station Inspection File. This file is required by the station and not only must your letter be placed in it (that can be reviewed during a license renewal), but you also have the right to inspect that file. If the station tries to prevent you, it risks a major FCC fine.

Lastly....while I laud the poster's efforts in helping compose a letter, I always suggest you use your own words...polite and to the point. If you say you don't listen to either the station or show, be assured your letter goes in the circular file, so put some honey in there before you lower the boom. Also, make sure to send a copy "snail mail"...and, if you're so inclined, include a copy to the stations advertisers and the local newspaper (they love trashing a sales competitor).

10. There Ya Go...
Think of it like sending a letter to a congresscritter...they always pay attention to the in-district mail. Also, it doesn't take much to get a good handle on the station...their slogan, promotions and advertisers...and if you mix a little of that in a letter it gives it a little more credibility. I wouldn't be surprised that the advertiser many not have gotten ANY response (meaning direct sales) from their advertising...times have been real lean in radio, and advertising dollars are tight and can be spent many ways, thus targeting the local advertisers, IMHO, would be the best way to get results and relegate Mr. Sewage to internet only.

Cheers...
