obama is right...commander in chief makes the policy |
|
obama told the press in iraq that he would call the shots, not the military men.
even andrea mitchell from msnbc was 'impressed by his confidence' on military affairs

1. That's what the balance of powers is for |
|
Just the same, I want it balanced no matter what.
What I'd like to see is Obama do a presidential judicial recess appointment of every single outstanding seat, or actually, just threaten to do it.
Snicker.

2. Exactly...The President establishes the "mission" and the commanders |
|
whether on the ground or in the air or where ever the heck they might be just carry out the mission. They do not establish policy nor need they be consulted about it one way or another. The military does not run the government. The government runs it. If the President says pack up and leave, that is exactly what they will do. They do not tell the President where or when they will go..

6. Carl Von Clausewitz came up with that theory in the 1800s. Glad to see it's back in fashion. |

3. We have civilian control of the military in this country |

If David Petraeus does not like that, then his resignation will be accepted.

7. SHAME on Bush for hiding behind the Generals. |

It's one of the most despicable things he's done. (Torture, being the most despicable.)

He sacked McClellan twice, and Burnside, and Hooker, before transfering Grant to the job.
"Find out what Grant is drinking and send a case to all the other generals." - A. Lincoln, when told that Grant was a drunk.
