Have you gotten calls from "Card Services"?
I keep getting them...at least once or twice a week! The recording says press 1 to talk to a rep, press 2 if you want to discontinue being contacted. Every time, I press 2, but they keep calling anyway!

Tonight I pressed 1, and when the rep came on the line, I asked "Who are you?" He said we are a service that represents Visa & MasterCard. I started to explain that I had pressed 2 but the calls keep coming, and he just hung up!

I've contacted the phone company, but they said if I don't have caller ID, there was nothing they could do.

How can I make these fools stop bugging me?

1. I get collections calls to all the time (for some guy named Ned or Ted)
btw, my name's not _ed. They continue to call on a daily basis and it has gotten to the point where I refuse to answer the CELL phone unless I recognize the number. So if you call be sure to leave a message, for _ed.

8. I registered when this first became available and yes, I checked and my
info is active. I can't report them because I don't have a phone number or specific name to report! I checked google for "card services" and there are at least 2 companies with that ID. The one that appears to be most likely is in the business of "selling" credit cards with an upgront fee for finding you a great deal! BS!!!! I just want them to go away!

19. Land line. I have the bare minimum phone service because I don't
use the phone very much and I refuse to pay extra for caller ID, and all the other BS they want to seel you, and I refuse to pay even more for cell phone service! It still pisses me off every month when I have to pay that damn $30 bill!

21. Well the next time they call you, call the phone Co immediately
ask that they block all calls from the folks that last called you. They will have a record of the number. Tell the phone company that you are on the no call list and demand they block the calls.

24. When I called them the last time, they told me unless I had caller ID
there was nothing they could do! I don't recall if I called them immediately after that stupid call or if it was a bit later. I'm positive they CAN find out who called (I watch way too many Law & Order shows!) but they claimed they couldn't help.

I'm positive they have access to the info. I'm just not sure if they're too lazy to look for it, or they've been told not to bother.

3. Scam scam scam scam scam
Oh yeah, they're a total scam - basically telemarketers that will "look for a better rate for you" in exchange for a fat advance fee. Not much you can do about being called, unfortunately - they're not located in the US, and thus are not subject to the US do-not-call list.

4. I've had exactly the same thing going on
I got fed up with the last one and pressed "1". They asked me who they were speaking to and I said "You called me, why don't you tell me who you are?" I told them my number was on the do not call list and I would be reporting them if I received another call. They hung up on me as well.

Do they tell you they're calling to help lower your interest rates? I figure it has to be a scam.

6. Yep! Lower yur CC interest rate! I don't care what my int rate is
because I pay my CC bill in total every month. It just pisses me off that I can't stop the damn calls! Besides, if I wanted a better int rate, I'd check Ranrate.com and find one!

13. And the bad part is that when you press two
The recording has the nerve to tell you that your number (they say it) has been removed from their call list. Liars.

It pisses me off also and, like you, I can't get them to stop either.

14. Preying on the financially desperate.
Tell them you have no CC debt or, better yet, create a script, keep them on the phone for half an hour, wasting their time, THEN tell them you have no CC debt, you rent and your car is paid for.

17. All of that is true, but I was thinking of doing the opposite.
I was going to make up a story like this:

"OH, am I glad you called! I have close to $60,000 on credit cards, and the interest rates are killing me! I had to file for bankruptcy yesterday! I rent this house and my car is 20 years old. How can you help me???"

I suspect they would also hang up, but MAYBE take my name off their list!

5. It's a scam
They claim someone is using your credit card and they have your number but need the 3 digit security code on the back. There was a post here about this a few days ago. Snopes has an article too.

I have received two calls this week. I just hang up as soon as they tell me who they are.

they hang up! The closest they got to asking a question was this last time when I asked who they were, and the guy said "We're Card Services representing Visa & Mastercard. Who are you?" I told him he already knew who I was because he called ME! As soon as I said I keep pressing 2 but....he hung up! I'm not worried about being scammed! I just want the AH'S to stop calling!

20. "there's no problem with your account..." -are those the ones you're talking about?
or the ones that assume that because you have a couple/few cards that you must have $10,000 of credit card debt as well...?

we get'em, we hate'em, we generally hang up.
btw- they generally show up on caller id as "cellular call", even though it's a recorded message.

22. They called me. Said they would reduce interest on "my credit card." Then I pushed the button to
talk to a person.

The person asked for my name, my credit card name and number.

I replied, "You called me. You tell me my information and how you got it.

The person hung up.

I reported the number to the better business bureau. I'm sure they did a whole lot of nothing.

25. I've gotten those calls. I have caller ID
Caller ID does you no good, as the call comes in as "Unknown." Ignoring "Unknown" calls usually means I get calls constantly until I do pick up, which will stop them for a few days.

I like the idea of immediately calling the phone company to complain.

31. I did that for over a year, but you don't understand. I really don't
use the phone very much...maybe 5 calls a month. I don't receive very many either...about the same 5. My sons will call once in a while, the Dr. office calls to confirm an appointment, and a friend from our original home State will call maybe once, but that's it. When the phone rings, I always answer because it's usually something important or someone I wish to talk to. I have a bit of a mobility problem so it's not always easy for me to answer quickly, and these stupid crank calls are more than an aggrivation!

38. If you have a cordless,
carry it with you where ever you go and then you don't have to run for the phone. I try to remember to always do this.

I get these calls all the time and when I have to run (hobble faster than usual) for the phone and it is them, I use a bit of profanity on those recordings.

33. This may be in poor taste, but what the hell...
Sometimes I tell them that the person they wish to talk to passed away a couple days earlier. Then, I ask them to please remove the poor dearly departed from their list. I use my best emotional voice.

Works every time. They can't get off the line fast enough.

34. At least 50 times in the last year, yes. Yes, we're on the DoNotCall list.
At first, I told them they were breaking the law by calling a DoNotCall number. They hung up and the calls continued.
When there's a *69 caller id, I've reported them. The calls continued.

Now, every time they call I express an interest and then ask them to hold.

And hold.

After about 10-15 minutes, if they're still there, I ask them if they're still there.

If they say 'yes' I tell them they're fools as well as crooks and hang up.

These guys call all the time when I'm trying to work and expect me to give a damn. I told them a couple times to not call me anymore to which they refused. If I remember right they asked MEEEEEE to call another number so I could have my name removed from their list. Oh that pissed me off.

I always just hang up on them now. When I do they always make a "courtesy" call back immediately because we were so "unfortunately" interrupted. I don't answer the second time.

37. I get them all the time, and I have no visa or mastercard account.
I also get calls telling me that my car warrenty is about to end, or has ended. I don't own a car.

I get all kinds of these calls, and I have ended up just giving up on trying to stop them. I just answer the phone and when the message comes on, I hang up. I have decided that if this is costing them money to do, then let them spend the money. Some days I just let the answering machine pick up since most of my personal calls come on my cell phone. I have had over two years of these calls. When I can I am going to drop my land line phone all together.

They say they are going to lower the interest rate on my credit card but don't tell me which one, so I assume it's a bait and switch operation. I too have pressed 2 to discontinue being contacted and they contact me anyway. So now I just keep hanging up on them. It's all I can do. If they don't identify themselves, I don't know how you can stop them. If you find out who they are then you can fill a complaint with the Attorney General of your state.
