Abused dogs used for sex find sanctuary

Best Friends Animal Society, the nation's largest animal sanctuary, has agreed to accept two dogs that authorities say were trained to have sex with women, and were videotaped doing so.

A mixed breed and a Labrador, formerly owned by Diane Sue Whalen of Tulsa County, Oklahoma, have been accepted by the Best Friends in Kanab, Utah, and will be taken to the no-kill sanctuary next month.

A deputy who investigated the case had recommended that the dogs be euthanized and wrote in court affidavits that they had been trained to rape.

Best Friends, thankfully, disagreed. "These dogs are totally victims," Williamson said.

1. What an idiot deputy.

A dog doesn't have the mental capacity to "rape." You'd think a law enforcement officer in this day and age would realize that rape is not merely a sexual crime, but rather a crime of violence and agression.

Dogs can be "violent" or "aggressive," but only as the result of enduring physical abuses themselves. It's the same as saying that a two-year-old was "raping" someone. CANNOT BE PSYCHOLOGICALLY DONE.

But, I'm glad the dogs are safe now. I'd adopt one if I lived in Utah.

6. Yep. If that were the case then my dog could have been accused of

repeatedly raping the ottoman and stranger's legs. Well, until he was neutered, anyway. An un-neutered dog will screw pretty much anything, hence the expression "he's SUCH a dog"!

2. The deputy should not had been the one to evaluate the dogs.

It should had been conducted by someone in the humane society that has the expertise.

7. maybe you shouldn't assume

All the report says is "a deputy." Did he have expertise in animal matters? I don't know. Nor do you. I am a LEO who happens to have specialized training in that area (not a lot, but more than most). If a newspaper quoted me as "an officer" would you make that assumption.

I can't stand when people assume w/o facts. the article doesn't state WHAT the guy's expertise or lack thereof is.

Maybe he was a specially trained deputy, or maybe he wasn't. I don't know.

If it was a deputy it should had been identified as an officer with the Tulsa Animal Welfare Dept.

And yes I would make that assumption because even though you may have some specialized training it is only to the extent that would be considered necessary for the job under normal circumstances.

Even those animal welfare officers in NY, Detroit, Dallas on Animal Planet don't have the expertise to make a decision as to whether an animal needs to be put down. Their function is to enforce and rescue animals when necessary based on their state laws. When there is a question of whether there should be charges filed against an owner it isn't based on the officer's opinion. They rely on the expert opinions of vets and others who may either appear as witness in a hearing or filed in the officers report.

8. I would think it was the dogs that were raped

Unless the woman was an unwilling participant, and there's nothing in the article that indicates that, she and her friend there were using the dogs to satisfy thier sexual kinks.

The dogs were doing what dogs do.

This has been big news in Oklahoma since the story broke a few weeks ago. The deputy was overruled by just about everybody, so his opinion lasted all of about two seconds. The man in the story tried to keep his dog from being adopted, but thank Jeebus he was denied that right.
Fucking disgraces to humanity, these people.
