An Outrageous Attempt by the Bush Administration to Undermine Women's Rights

by Hillary Clinton

The Bush administration is up to its old tricks again, quietly putting ideology before science and women's health. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is poised to put in place new barriers to accessing common forms of contraception like birth control pills, emergency contraception and IUDs by labeling them "abortion." These proposed regulations set to be released next week will allow healthcare providers to refuse to provide contraception to women who need it. We can't let them get away with this underhanded move to undermine women's health and that's why I am sounding the alarm.

These rules pose a serious threat to providers and uninsured and low-income Americans seeking care. They could prevent providers of federally-funded family planning services, like Medicaid and Title X, from guaranteeing their patients access to the full range of comprehensive family planning services. They'll also build significant barriers to counseling, education, contraception and preventive health services for those who need it most: low-income and uninsured women and men.

2. The more they overstep the greater the backlash....
We can only hope the ding-dongs on the right continue with their power grab because once Obama hits the white house the flushing of the disease will begin.

8. How Classy!
Hillary has risen from the disappointment over her lack of victory in the primary to continue to fight for our values. All the people who thought she'd cry and sulk can just stuff it. All the people calling themselves Hillary supporters who plan to vote against Obama are the ones sulking - they obviously have no appreciation for Hillary's values or what she represents.

13. Thank you, Senator Clinton for standing up for women's rights!
I swear the knuckle-dragging right would like nothing more than to turn back the clock on women's rights by 100 years. Furthermore, how SICK is it that they would force poor and uninsured women to bring unwanted children into this world by eliminating reproductive choice? I guess the sanctimonious assholes will say that "those" people have no right to engage in sex.

the only people that would've read it would have been the ones that wanted to bash her.

31. You'd think that people so deeply opposed to abortion would be all about providing
safe, effective contraceptives to anyone who wants them. The best way to prevent abortion is to prevent conception. Insisting on abstinence is a joke. It goes against human nature. They have to know that.

34. Didn't we go through this before?
Remember when that reporter asked Snow about Bush's stance on birth control? Remember how Hillary and Patty Murray wrote that letter to Bush demanding to know in light of that news conference what Bush's stance exactly was regarding contraceptives? It took a very long time for him to answer and it was a very ambiguous answer.

Now, it is happening ALL OVER AGAIN. Didn't even McCain skirt the issue recently regarding birth control? The Pill is the #1 form of contraception among women in the US. Are they now going to declare BILLIONS of women are having abortions? More fuel to overturn Roe for religious reich?

These people HAVE to be stopped.
