Conservative GOP Nutbag 'Airplane!' director eyes Michael Moore
A prediction: another big flop from the right

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0708/11959.html

The comedy director who gave us such immortal movie lines as “Oh stewardess, I speak jive” and “Don’t call me Shirley” is now leveling his sights at documentary filmmaker Michael Moore.

David Zucker, the director and writer who helped create “Airplane!” and “The Naked Gun” franchise has called on Hollywood’s tiny but tightly knit Republican A-list crowd to help him make a broad yet unusually right-leaning political satire titled “An American Carol.”

The low-budget indie co-stars Emmy winner Kelsey Grammer with Oscar-winner Jon Voight, cinema icon Dennis Hopper, model-heiress Paris Hilton and frequent Zucker stooge Leslie Nielsen in minor roles. Release is planned sometime by year’s end; the director suggested Friday, Sept. 12, to coincide with the seventh anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

-snipped-

Zucker, who comes from a family of JFK Democrats, calls himself a “Sept. 11 Republican” who left his former party over national security issues. Since his own political turnaround, he has directed two enormously successful “Scary Movie” sequels and an Ashton Kutcher romantic comedy flop, in addition to a batch of unaired Republican National Committee ads and viral videos skewering Sen. John F. Kerry, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and the Iraq Study Group. The videos appeared on YouTube.com and conservative blogs.

But Zucker has been mulling a big-screen mauling of Moore for years. He alluded obliquely to his movie project in a 2006 interview with conservative radio host Michael Medved and told the Los Angeles Jewish Journal around the same time, “You have people like Michael Moore going into foreign countries saying Americans are the stupidest people in the world. I want to tell the real America story, that America is a force for good.”

“An American Carol” is being distributed by Mpower Pictures, a company co-founded by former Mel Gibson protégé Stephen McEveety, who produced “The Passion of the Christ” and “Braveheart,” among other films. The indie firm recently hired conservative public relations firm Creative Response Concepts to help spread word to friendly outlets, as CRC did earlier with Oliver Stone’s “World Trade Center” and Walden Media’s “Chronicles of Narnia.” Perhaps best known for handling the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth campaign during the 2004 presidential race, CRC’s other clients have included the Republican National Committee, the Christian Coalition and “intelligent design” hub the Discovery Institute.

3. How much you want to bet
That they make lots of fat jokes about Moore?

I also can't wait to see things like that publicity event pulling down Saddam's statue.

All in all, I suspect they'll simply wind up showing how wrong they really are

35. Seriously STUPID - if he knew history, he'd know Kerry flagged global terrorism in the 80s and 90s
and Bushes were part of the powerful circle that NURTURED it.

Sept 11 Republican - another DUMBASS who never read a government report on IranContra, BCCI and CIA Drugrunning. He sure as hell wouldn't be devoted to Republicans or the Dems who protected them throughout the 90s if he cared enough to know what the fuck really led to 9-11.

7. coincide with the seventh anniversary of the 9/11
now that's tasteful!....NOT

the “Sept. 11 Republicans” are probably the most gullible of all cons manipulated by the fearmongering. Not to mention looking really stupid these days and still desperately cling to their failures.
He better get his friend OJ for a butcher job this big.

But apparently, they're just not listening.

Sad, I tell you, sad, the way they keep pouring money down these kinds of ratholes.

17. As I run and duck for cover
I take my life in my hands and point out that many of the so called anti troops or real truth about Iraq movies (you make the choice of which way you believe) made last fall fell flat on their financial faces.

Rendition et-al made bupkiss.

I have a hunch this film will do better than those.

ANd rightly or wrongly Moore has made himself a tempting target to those on the right.

Remember how bad The Passion of The Christ did (Sarc) somewhere west of 150 millions and counting if I remember correctly.

We do not have a franchise on political outlook or political propaganda/movies and books.

There is a reason that many middle of the road Americans have a certain amount of contempt for Hollywood.

If it was wrong to blacklist liberal types in the 50's then it is wrong to do so now to conservatives with a view point that differs from the prescribed one.

It is what we are doing we just refuse (in our arrogance) to admit it.

19. Far from it - you're entirely correct regarding Iraq-themed movie grosses
However, that wasn't really the point here, was it? The point was Michael Moore. On his side, huge piles of cash, and on their side, "FarenHype 9/11".

25. for starters
by my count this will be the 3rd anti-MM movie they will have made, and no one even remembers the existence of the previous two...

The subject matter in "Rendition" was good, but the overall writing and plot was not... "Lions for Lambs had potential to be great, but also suffered from a bad script...For some reason, something gets lost in these big-dollar productions and it ends up half-assed at the theater (FWIW "Taxi to the Dark Side" did win an Oscar)...And as we all know, financial success doesn't always relate to how good a piece of filmmaking it actually is...

I'm not saying there should be some monopoly of political projects in Hollywood (besides, no one could create one even if they wanted to in the age of inexpensive amateur film production)...BUT there is a difference between something that tries to make an honest point versus something too laughably absurd to take seriously, like "Expelled"

27. Blacklisting...
is not speaking ill of or mocking an artist of differing opinions. It means an organized barring of a person from employment on the basis of differing opinions. No one here can blacklist Zucker or anyone else.
So what people are doing here is in no way the same as blacklisting. Not the same at all.

'stupid', but Zucker himself makes films which are essentially dick/tit/fart/shit jokes on a big budget.

that is a shame...

And I know for a (very) brief time in 2002 it was cool to call yourself a "Sept. 11 repub" (Dennis Miller, Alex Trebek, etc), but anyone still doing it now with all that has happened needs to die in a fire...

34. So basically Zucker is a small, terrified man
He became terrified on Sept. 11th, 2001, and he remains terrified on July 25th, 2008, and probably will be terrified until the day he dies.

In other words, with Zucker, the terrorists have won.

Nice.
