Vancouver is extremely hilly so you blow a lot of gas going uphill (there doesn't seem to be any downhill).

The drivers are all on drugs. Really good drugs. That's my only explanation.

They pull the damndest stunts I've ever seen.

1. Driving through red lights. Not "running" not "breaking and failing", just moseying on through. BAMMM!!!
   
2. Failing to acknowledge the concept of "lanes" or "oncoming traffic".
   
3. Simply stopping in the middle of the road. Nobody gets in or out or appears to be doing anything.
   
4. Proceeding down a winding, twisting freeway at half the posted limit in the left lane.
   
5. Proceeding down same freeway at twice the posted limit in the right lane.
   
6. Above in fog.
   
7. Above in blinding blizzard.
   
8. Parking. Don't get me started.
   
9. Signalling. If it was consistently "right means left" I could cope. It's the utter randomness of it, combined with strange hand gestures that are probably "look at the pretty space aliens".
   

You, of course, need to modify your driving accordingly. Slow and steady is NOT going to cut it. You have to be ready to completely lock up the brakes to avoid #4, then floor it to avoid #5, do a drift to avoid #1, then cut in the afterburners to grab the only available parking space in the city.
