My wife made an observation today after hearing a person's comment on Obama |
|
She couldn't help but be amazed how many unrealized racist their are in our area.
She explained she heard a man talking to another man and the phrases like "TRUE presidential candidates wouldn't do that". "Amazing how THOSE type of candidates..." and then she overheard a waitress comment that She didn't feel comfortable voting this year but couldn't explain why.

1. They realize it. Other "good white" folks just allow them the fiction of it being hidden... |

2. Oh, just you wait......... |

We are going to see racism in some many iterations and disguises, we're going to have our silly little liberal heads spinning. The one I've noticed with some frequency so far is "I don't know what his agenda is." That's code for "He's black, and I'm afraid that if he wins, the blacks will do to us what we did to them."
Racism can be so brilliantly disguised, it's often hard to spot. But, when you put it into the mix here, when people can't quite articulate why they're "not comfortable" with "that candidate," you'll see how pervasive it is.
We're a country of racists, I've sadly concluded, and we ain't seen nothing yet.

4. I think my wife was just so shocked at the "code" that she wasn't sure what |
|
to think. My wife and I were born in the 70s. My wife and I like to think we aren't racist but I know she felt guilty not jumping up and saying something but I think what is disappointing her and shocking her the most is that THIS type of talk is coming from people she admired and never "acted" racist before.
She asked me: "How do you deal with this stupidity when it turns everything you thought you knew upside down"?
She is also wondering if Ben Stein isn't racist as well. We just heard his Obama/Nazi comments.

5. How on earth could the comment by the waitress be construed |
|
as racist?
Bit of a stretch IMHO.
Why look for an attitude that that may not be there.

6. Because as the waitress went on her routine at the place and my wife |
|
watch... She was more open to listening about Mcsane but when it came to Obama she almost cringed a couple times and if those in the place talked about Obama she was quick to leave the table/booth but McSane talk she kind of lingered.

8. Sorry. She explained more to me after I read her your response |
|
She said that she honestly thinks the waitress didn't realize she was doing it.

10. America knows what it is like to have a rich white man for prez. |
|
Anything else is just frightening. A lot of it is racism but some of it is just fear of an uncertain future. We all need a hero, they just cannot accept that he may be a black man.
Americans have been trained to link politics with their worst fears and deepest prejudices. It has been a simple and effective way to keep in power without ever having to do anything constructive.
I have heard many criticize his optimism as if he were deluded about the true state of the world. They are just not used to a leader appealing to the best in who we are instead of exploiting our cultural blind spots.
I keep hearing "well I don't know what he stands for". What they really mean is that they don't know which way he hates. Obama is not a hater, conservative America cannot grasp the concept.
