i'd like to start up a group - "Narratives" - need people to agree

My mother had written an interesting essay on her life during WWII, and I had posted it here. I've since been thinking a lot about recording memories, as I grow older, and would like to create some repository for such things. They could be from WWII, or from 2005 - doesn't matter.

To start a group, I need some people to agree, and beyond that, would need some to contribute.

Anyone willing?

(and a K&R would help to at least get this to where it can be noticed and acted upon)

1. I'll sign on on one condition
It sounds like a fine idea, but think of something else to call it other than "narratives".

That word is like fingers on a chalkboard to me. I hear it enough from the pundits and the bobbleheads on the news channels.

5. What about "Oral History"?
Even though it's written and not spoken, I think the term still covers it. Oral histories are personal recollections of the past from the viewpoint of ordinary people.

and a shift key.

i don't think y'all can help me with the shift key, but for the concept, that'd be great..\

9. I empathise but disagree

Annoying as it is (and it is), I think it's actually a nice, accurate word, also. I love/hate it.

3. If it were reserved for historically/politically relevant stories, I'm all for it.

I think it could be very interesting. But if it becomes a place for narcissists to talk about themselves, no. We do not need an Oprah forum for endless childhood reminiscences or recovered memories of abuse.

6. Sounds interesting enough to pursue.
I'd describe what you have in mind a little more fully.

I love oral histories, and I might have some bits to contribute.

(As long as it omits the kind that start "I just went went to the grocery store and ran into a disgusting freeper....")

Not a bad idea. To many threads are composed of ill-thought-out one-liners with no sense of history.

12. I have to reroute this thread over - please repost if you did originally
I didn't recall the formal requirements, such as making a mission statement, etc.

Could I trouble you to convert your support to the other thread?

Thanks
