And so it came to pass. A parable of Obama
This is brilliant. Please click the link and read the whole thing.

And it came to pass, in the eighth year of the reign of the evil Bush the Younger (The Ignorant), when the whole land from the Arabian desert to the shores of the Great Lakes had been laid barren, that a Child appeared in the wilderness.

The Child was blessed in looks and intellect. Scion of a simple family, offspring of a miraculous union, grandson of a typical white person and an African peasant. And yea, as he grew, the Child walked in the path of righteousness, with only the occasional detour into the odd weed and a little blow.

When he was twelve years old, they found him in the temple in the City of Chicago, arguing the finer points of community organisation with the Prophet Jeremiah and the Elders. And the Elders were astonished at what they heard and said among themselves: “Verily, who is this Child that he opens our hearts and minds to the audacity of hope?”

In the great Battles of Caucus and Primary he smote the conniving Hillary, wife of the deposed King Bill the Priapic and their barbarian hordes of Working Class Whites.

Much much more at link.

1. The divisions
of our political parties are so clear to see in the comments.

How did you interpret this piece?
I looked back through Gerard Baker's columns briefly and he doesn't seem to be an Obama fan.

3. I dono, anytime anyone calls Bush ignorant
It works for me. I enjoyed the piece. A little tongue in cheek but overall, I thought it was well written and clever. I certainly didn't see it a a rw hit.

Really? You might try considering the source before drawing conclusions.

6. Now this, folks, is satire. Unlike the cover of The New Yorker, this skillfully uses mythical motifs
... to skewer the psychological projections of the multitudes upon Barack Obama.

The author does a good job with his material, and I had to laugh in places even though it made me uneasy in places, because after all this is my candidate's phenomenon he is satirizing, and I project my hopes onto Barack Obama too.
