Bigotry Comes In All Shades....
Belmar is a popular Jersey Shore destination for people in North Jersey and the New York Boroughs. "The Sopranos" did many a film scene from this area. I think the Mayor is going to have some problems, and his business people in the community are furious. The visitors from SI are valued visitors. He should have known better but bigotry contagious and viral.

BELMAR — A date has been set for Mayor Kenneth E. Pringle to visit Staten Island, many of whose residents he infuriated recently with a local newsletter in which he mocked the "SI girls" and "guidos" who visit Belmar every summer.

Pringle and his wife will head to Staten Island Friday morning, said Larry Ambrosino, executive director of the nonprofit group SINY, which works to develop Staten Island's image. The mayor will take a ride on the Staten Island Ferry, visit the Staten Island Zoo and eat lunch in a Staten Island restaurant, Ambrosino said.

"What he said was unfortunate," Ambrosino said. "Hopefully, he can put this to rest."

SINY invited Pringle to spend the day immersing in Staten Island's culture after the July 4 issue of the mayor's Belmar Summer Rental News gained widespread media attention and caused a public outcry. The newsletter described an "SI girl" who punched another woman in a Belmar bar, using the hand in which she was holding her drink.

"We're not sure if the glass was stuck to her hand cause of all the hair spray or if this is a technique Staten Island girls learn in Brownies," Pringle wrote, "but we are thankful she left her brass knuckles and straight razor in her other purse."

Some Staten Islanders have called for a boycott of the Belmar beach and all borough businesses, but Ambrosino said he disagreed with that course of action.
