Hello from Asher Heimermann
My name is Asher Heimermann from Sheboygan, Wisconsin. I am 14 years of age and this is my fouth year involved in politics and government. I have submitted countless letters to political and government leaders as well as international leaders. I've been volunteering for Senator Barack Obama since June, 2007. Last week, I reached my fundraising goal of $3,000 for Senator Obama.

I have decided to get involved for multiple reasons, the primary reason being today a lot political views of the youth are not heard and I feel it is an important to make a difference. I invite you to visit my official website at www.AsherHeimermann.com to learn more about me and my involvement in politics and government.

If you have any questions, please e-mail me at asher@asherheimermann.com . I look forward to sharing my views and thoughts on Democratic Underground.

2. Rock out Asher!
I started to get involved in politics and activism around your same age, although my hot buttons were nuclear disarmament and apartheid protests.

Today's kids have a lot more ideas being thrown at them--the more they enlighten themselves, the easier the time they'll have finding their own right path.

Hi Patrice,

Well, I could say that but I was the one that planned all three platform meetings in my City. My meetings went well. We discussed the climate crisis and healthcare.

14. "Small" things can be way more important than people realize . . .
Edited on Sun Jul-27-08 06:58 PM by patrice
especially when, without them, there would be NOTHING.

Did you agree upon group statements about the climate crisis and/or health care?

I was surprised by how easily our group of 20 was able to formulate their position. Perhaps your groups share some of our principles . . . ?

We decided that we would write planks about Access, Quality & Cost. We decided:

1. Access: Any health care program that we implement must be portable and cover everyone.

2. Quality: Any health care program must provide high quality care that includes these priorities: medically necessary care; preventive care; and proactive chronic care.

3. Cost: Any health care program should have systems in place to sustainably control costs while maintaining quality and affordability for patients.

We also included:
There must be a portable electronic medical record, for each person, that is owned by the patient.

We believe the most effective way to implement all of these policies is through a Single Payer system.

This group supports the principles of HR 676 - expanded and improved Medicare for all.

13. Asher, I think people your age who even are aware of
politics are exceptional.
Some little voice in my head is saying:- "Is this for real?".
If it is then you have totally over-achieved. Well done.
What more can I say?
Find time to smell the roses.
Cheers

17. Welcome to DU, Asher!
You are an inspiration. I'm so glad more youth are getting involved in politics these days. The youth of our nation is our future & you have every right to be taking stands & pushing issues.

Recruit more kids your age to the cause!:hi:

(P. S. Asher was my grandfather's middle name, I haven't heard it years; he was a VERY special man & I think you will be, too!):patriot:
