What exactly is it about Obama that scares the BeeJesus out of repubs?
Is the answer too painfully obvious? I swear, some of them have whipped themselves into a total frenzy of terror, and some of them actually think he's the anti Christ and that if elected it's time for Gabriel's horn.

Is it that he's a Democrat? Is it simply that he's black? Is that explanation just too black and white? I mean, he's half white for Christ's sake, how white do you have to be, half white ain't good enough for your white supremacist asses?

They are so frightened of this young man that they make shit up and email it to each other out of desperation, just why are their panties in such a bunch over Barack Obama?

Their little games are over, and they are in fear of their lives, fortunes, and reputations.

The falsity of the GOP will end with the party this election season.

8. They thought they had it all sewn up
The Presidency and Congress, which would give them the Supreme Court. They are so disappointed in the 2006 Congressional Elections, but could have tried to think of it as an aberration. They see Capt. Combover and know he can't compete with Obama and doesn't nearly measure up. Their disappointment that they will have to share the world with the libruls, whom they thought they had defeated, is thereby reflected.

10. Fear, Fear, Fear...
It's what they live on. The other night I saw Bill Mahrer and he hit on this...going on with a big list of fears that are the "glue" that holds the GOOP together. Let us run through just a few:

Blacks (obviously)
Hispanics (specifically Mexicans)
Woman (especially Lesbians and Single Women with thoughts of career)
Gays (they're gonna want to force all us heterosexuals to watch Bravo)
Jews (they're only OK when they're Armageddon fodder)
Brown-skinned Foreigners (especially if you have a mustache and an A-rab sounding name)
Poor People (it's your fault...get a REAL job)
"Socialists" (but don't you dare touch my SSI and be sure to bail out my failed bank)
Atheists, Catholics, Methodists... (anyone whose not the "right" Xtian)
Labor Unions (how dare them take MY money)

and the list goes on.

The GOOP has reduced itself from running for things to running from.

Democratic candidate that may live up to his promises. This would mean that the people of our country would at last see, at last, how well liberal policies work.

17. The golden ring
Like in Lord of the Rings, they were seduced by the power. It warped their minds and bodies (See Rush Limbaugh) and left them a shallow husk of their former selves. Now the tide has turned and their planned permanent majority has been turned into a near permanent rout. Their last best hope is the presidency where the big ring is still in their hands. The Ring shall be cast back into the fires of Mt...uh, Washington...and their power will be broken. So that's why they're all panicky. Just see the polls; any dem beats any repub this year in presidential choice.

18. Alot is probably his race and his name
But at the same time Bobby Jindal has a foreign sounding name and non-white skin but he won as a republican in Louisiana. So I don't know why black Barack Obama would be evil but brown Bobby Jindal would be acceptable.

Could be that the 2008 election is looking like an election where the dems are starting to turn back into a real democratic opposition party and not the republican lite party that the dems have been accused of being for the last few elections. Perhaps that scares them. Good.

other such dangerous radicals as George McGovern, Michael Dukakis, Bill Clinton (just how many dead bodies did he leave behind in his rise to power?)and John Kerry.

This has be going on for more than a generation now.

22. I'm not a pub but he scares me too
How can anyone who swears to uphold, preserve and protect and defend the Constitiution vote for Bush's FISA bill?
"TOPCAT" says it all :
"This is a revolting bit of betrayal for Obama and Congress who above all are sworn to uphold the American Constitution as job one. The FISA sellout once more redefines the depths a toy poodle government has sunk to in an ongoing cave-in to monopoly corporate paymasters that virtually own Washington. Obama again takes the low road to "defend" blatant illegal retroactive (ex post facto) and future government spying by a power drunk corporate crime establishment whose consistent red herring alibi is to defend America against a global "terrorist" threat."

Well those signing statements are transferable to the next president who will be Obama.

27. They fear him because......
He's intelligent, articulate, isn't easily flustered, transcends the race issue, and is
a really likable guy who draws huge crowds wherever he goes.

None of this even says whether or not he has the right stuff to be president, but it has
been evident for a while now that THAT hasn't been a factor in Republican calculations,
evidenced by whom they have offered as their own candidates. Since Roger Ailes joined the
Nixon Dirty Tricks Team, it has all been about selling the image, and their product doesn't
match up this time, despite their having the best advertising team on the face of the planet.

30. Some are simply racist. Some simply hate all Democrats.
Some feel that he has an agenda and is ruled by special interest groups. Some claim he would lobby for the removal of some 2nd Amendment rights. Some are so batshit nuts that they actually keep repeating the "Obama is a Marxist" meme...

I think that they're all nuts.

I am happy to report that it's not going to matter one little bit, though.

Obama is 44!!!

31. His race is not the primordial issue for most of them.
Edited on Mon Jul-28-08 09:34 AM by Beacool
After reading post after post on the most rabid RW sites, this is my conclusion:

- They think that Obama is a marxist, socialist or even the next Hitler.

- They consider him unpatriotic, the flag pin issue is often mentioned. They are also now irate that the flag was removed from his campaign plane and was replaced by his "O" logo.

- They think that he's a corrupt South Side Chicago politician who has dubious associates. They bring up Rev. Wright, Tony Rezko, father Pfleger and Ayres as examples.

- They consider Obama to have zero experience in running anything and don't think that he's fit to run the country.

- They do not like Michelle. They think that she's also unpatriotic and an angry woman to boot. Her comments about "really" being proud of her country for the first time are repeated continuously.

- Some, but not most of them, think that he's a Muslim. Race concerns them less than his purported religion.

Ironically, most of them have hated the Clintons for years, but now think that compared to Obama they weren't that bad. It is too funny to see the same people who spewed vile against them, now say that if they were going to have a Democrat for president they would prefer Hillary. LOL!!

To sum it up, I think that their feelings for Obama fluctuate between hatred and fear. The extreme right was never going to vote for any Democrat, so why even worry about them?
