I know of a republican who actually justified the church shooting
by calling the church a cult.

1. That's what members of a cult say.
That everybody else is the member of one.

2. I was just thinking about how long it would be before the victims are blamed.
And all liberals. You know, bringing it on to ourselves.

3. It's easier to dismiss, and then to justify the deaths
It's easier to dismiss, and then to justify the deaths (or even insults) of people if we put them into easily organized categories-- Cult, Non-Believer, Believer, Liberal, Conservative.

I think it takes away a bit of the humanity of the target in the eyes of the perpetrator, thus allowing us to believe they are "less than", "asking for it", "stupid", etc.

4. As someone who was raised in what is essentially a christian cult
I can say that UU is about as far as you can get from being a cult and still be a "religion".

6. My memory's a bit fuzzy on details, but I remember back several
years ago when some administration-connected right wing group published a list of churches that they did not consider to be real churches. UU was among the top, iirc.

7. That's most ridiculous when they're talking about the UU church
If they're a cult, every church is one.

9. On black in America they spoke to two men who attended a white high school when MLK was assasinated.
They were ridiculed & taunted when it took place. This is the same thing. What hatred can be inside mankind.

10. If UU is a cult, so is every damn mega-church
with some charlatan standing in front preaching the "prosperity gospel" and driving off in his ultra-luxurious mercedes.

11. What a dick
Even if it were (which it isn't), does that justify shooting it up? I think most fundie churches are cults but I would despise such an act being committed there just as much as any place else.
These people are really strange...

19. Why I have a CCW is because so many wingnuts do.
Damn if I'm gonna let them and government agents have -all- the arms!
