Tom DeLay: God Created America To Propagate Christianity
Edited on Mon Jul-28-08 12:47 PM by madfloridian
Thanks to PFAW's Right Wing Watch for staying on top of things we might otherwise miss.

"Earlier this month, we noted that former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay had joined one of his "closest friends," Rick Scarborough of Vision America, for Sunday services at Scarborough's Texas church. Now, Vision America has helpfully posted the audio of DeLay’s rambling sermon on its website in which he explains that "America was created by God to spread the Gospel; to spread the word of Jesus Christ and to propagate Christianity":

Link to audio

His words:

I know that America was created by God and it was created by God, not for wealth, personal wealth. It wasn't created by God so that we would have the resources that we now have. It wasn't even created by God to have the freedom that we have now. America was created by God to spread the Gospel; to spread the word of Jesus Christ and to propagate Christianity. And the reason I know that is because my entire political career is exhibited by that. The Lord walked with me …I came to Christ in the first year in Congress and now I've been walking with the Lord he has trained me and showed me why he created this nation: to spread the Gospel

I know the world must love the way we "propagate Christianity".

I remember something from 2007 when his book came out...when he returned to Sugarland. I got the feeling many might be disillusioned with his vision of our country.

Sugarland, TX, population 75, 754....only about 100 greet DeLay's return

Leader Tom DeLay returned to his hometown of Sugar Land today a newly published author. More than 100 supporters applauded DeLay's arrival today for a book signing. His 179-page book, "No Retreat, No Surrender" was released about 10 days ago.

DeLay resigned last year after 22 years in Congress and faces state money laundering and conspiracy charges. He's accused of using an arm of the Republican National Committee to illegally funnel corporate contributions to seven G-O-P state legislative candidates.

The conservative icon told the audience that his decision to leave Congress was "the right decision."

Since then, he said, he has been plotting the Democrats' downfall as an outsider "researching the opposition and researching the needs of the conservative movement."

Tweety asked him recently...he claimed he was innocent and didn't need a pardon.

Methinks Ronnie Earl is not taking any chances...why its taken this long to get the trial going.

Nor does the Bible say why God created the USA.

Personally, I don't believe in God.

5. Thereby reversing 3,000 years of biblical history.

Since the Old Testament the prophets have shown us that the only justification for a "state" is to advance Justice.

God has not nor ever claimed to need "States" to advance his Word or message.

10. Right, Tom. You ass. So I guess if what you say is true, to be a Christian, you:
1. Lie to get what you want.

2. Kill people because they don't believe the same things you do.

3. Steal to make your wealthy friends even wealthier.

Is that what being a "Christian" is all about?

Would Jesus endorse these actions?

I think Christians would rather not be identified with this type of activity. It's not very Christian.

A past Republican President said the USA should rule all of America
because of obvious moral superiority as evidenced by whiteness of race.

This is why the Rs are going extinct!!! Time for some old-fashioned political genocide.

18. Just a tidbit...DeLay won't seek Bush pardon because it would indicate guilt.
http://thehill.com/leading-the-news/delays--lawyer-rules-out-seeking-pardon-from-bush-2008-07-22.html

"With Bush’s second term winding down, DeLay is the most prominent politician and Bush ally who could benefit from presidential clemency.

But Richard Cullen, who is representing DeLay in the federal investigation against him, said there should be no question of a pardon.

“I would rule it out,” he said. “No one has suggested that Mr. DeLay is guilty of a crime. He has stated clearly that he has not committed a crime.”

Pardons loom large in the waning months of any presidency, and DeLay’s case could be especially salient because his legal travails have already cost more than a million dollars in legal fees, with no end in sight. At least one other former Republican lawmaker, Rep. Randy “Duke” Cunningham (Calif.), has petitioned for a presidential pardon, according to the Justice Department."

Totally off the topic, but interesting how all these good folks who spout religion just have so many legal problems.

24. The turnout is even more pitiful than that,
as the Sugar Land "metro" area is at least a quarter of a million (counting Missouri City, Stafford, and Richmond/Rosenberg). And there's no guarantee all 100 were supporters - I thought about going but decided I couldn't stomach it.

I am pleased to report that the Democratic primary turnout in Fort Bend county was about three times the Repub turnout. Cross your fingers for the GE.

50. Remember when DeLay told Meredith Vierra all charges had been dropped?
It was so blatant.

Tom DeLay told Meredith Viera that all the charges had been dismissed against him.

..."On Friday, at an all-day symposium at the University of Texas School of Law, many of the participants in the saga will dissect what Bickerstaff says was one of the most extraordinary political events of the past 50 years. The prosecutor and the defense lawyer for DeLay will be there, as well as experts debating the legal significance of DeLay's legacy, grabbing power for his political party while losing grip on his public career. Bickerstaff will discuss his book at an invitation-only lunch.

DeLay, who is awaiting trial on charges that he conspired to launder corporate money into campaign donations, will not attend.

66. fucking treasonous theocrat
I'm sick of them. If you claim America was created to spread a religious belief, you are an enemy of the U.S. and the constitution and you should not be allowed to hold office in this nation.

I'm totally serious. I don't give a shit if 99% of your constituency agrees with you. They're also traitors to this nation - and probably sub-literate - and the pastors or priests who say this should be treated like the priests were treated during the French Revolution... that is to say, have their property confiscated and used to help the poor... and when they collude with theocrats or other anti-democratic groups, then they do not deserve to live in this nation. harsh? I'm sick of them and honestly think that their distorted view of this nation is one of the biggest obstacles to real democracy. If that makes me a bad person, then I guess Thomas Paine was a bad person too, and Voltaire. And Jefferson.

As Voltaire noted:

"What can we say to a man who tells you that he would rather obey God than men, and that therefore he is sure to go to heaven for butchering you? Even the law is impotent against these attacks of rage; it is like reading a court decree to a raving maniac. These fellows are certain that the holy spirit with which they are filled is above the law, that their enthusiasm is the only law that they must obey."

"The superstitious man is to the rogue what the slave is to the tyrant."

And sometimes the rogue and the tyrant are the same person.

I wouldn't call the constituents traitors. Stupid and/or ignorant, but not traitors.

However, the corrupt politicians who spout this crap to make these people vote for them, just so they can get into office and line their pockets -- those politicians are traitors. We agree there.

71. As usual Tom tells the truth in reverse ...
Christians created America to propagate their ignorance of God. Quite successfully, I should add.
