Firsthand report from the Yosemite fires
Just got back from the area of the fires. Went to help a buddy retrieve some stuff from his garage but the CHP wouldn't let us in. We now are boarding seven horses for people who had to evacuate their property in the fire zone (We're about 15-20 miles south). Residents of Midpines, Mt. Bullion, and Briceburg are under mandatory evacuation orders and many of them did not have time to move their animals so they released them to enable them to move away from the fires on their own. It's still smoky as hell here although much clearer than yesterday. The last I heard was they had reached 10% containment. The town of Mariposa is loaded with fire trucks bullodzers and fire personnel (and unfortunately looky loos). The airport looks like a war zone and you can see the fires on the slopes of Mt Bullion just above the runway.

This place is rumor central as far as which roads are open what property has been damaged etc. and I expect nothing will be perfectly clear until later in the week when they get it under control. I won't be going back there until it's over.

2. Thanks for the report.
I can't imagine how bad the smoke is. It's still July and this is already a really nasty fire season.

4. Thanks for the report and thanks
for being such a good neighbor and boarding 7 horses. I live in fear of a fast prairie fire roaring through with not enough trailer space to move my 7. Your friends or maybe just people around are lucky that they have you.

6. Yes, thanks for keeping us informed.
And, as others have said, for being such a good neighbor. Best of luck to all!

I love the CA foothills. :hi:
