Bennigans restaurant chain filed Chap.7 Bankruptcy today!
That's IT folks! No more Bennigans anywhere. Apparently they have 300 restaurants, and they're all gone!

4. I realize few here care about the chain itself, but how many employees
are now going to be out of work? 300 restaurants? I have to believe there must be an avg. of at least 10-25 people in each one! I feel very sad for THEM!

10. That would be about 10-25 per shift
So 30 to 75 at each location adds up to 9,000 or 22,500 directly employed by the company. Then think of all the support companies that will see a reduction in demand and reduce their staff. I'm no fan of chain stores and one reason is the harm that's done when they screw up and put thousands of people out of work.

Support local sustainable economies and not so many people get hurt if things go wrong.

2. Are they all closed already?
Filing Chapter 7 doesn't necessarily mean they're out of business.

But the Benningan's near us closed about four years ago.

5. Chapter 7 means liquiditation of assets! Chap. 11 is reorganization.
At least one manager was called this AM and told to cease operations, and this would be his last day!

6. A lot of chain restaurants are in trouble.
I go into a local Red Lobster from time to time- a year ago it was always crowded. Lately it's been close to empty, and the prices have gone WAY up (not that I blame 'em for their prices).

Back to home cookin' for a lot of folks. No doubt back to home gardening for a lot of 'em too.

12. Not surprised about Red Lobster having to raise prices dramatically -
rising oil obviously had a huge impact on their business as all of that seafood has to be transported thousands of miles daily to all the restaurants within the more interior parts of the country...

7. Steak & Ale, too. Apparently owned by the same corporate conglomeration.
I haven't eaten at either restaurant in years.

The last few times I ate at Benningan's, I was surrounded by dirty tables. Not very appetizing, to say the least. No attempt was made to clean them up, and when I asked our wait person about it, they said they were short staffed, yet I saw what appeared to be a management person yucking it up with a bartender.
