So long, Ted Stevens and Don Young; get ready for David Cuddy and Sean Parnell
Edited on Tue Jul-29-08 02:14 PM by brentspeak
Former Alaska state rep. Cuddy and current Alaska Lt.Gov Parnell are Stevens' and Young's respective (Senate and House) GOP primary challenger this August 26. I don't expect either Stevens or Young to survive their primary challenges.

How does Cuddy stack up against probable Democratic opponent Mark Begich? What about Parnell vs. either Democrats Ethan Berkowitz or Diane Benson?

If there's ever a time for Alaska to finally send (after x-numbers of years) a Democrat to Congress, this is it.

1. Lt. Gov. Parnell's a little weasel
riding on the coattails of Sarah Palin's popularity. There is a third option in the Republican primary for the House seat -- Kodiak state representative Gabrielle LeDoux, who from what I've seen is actually a pretty decent person. (I was told that she formerly was a Democrat but has run as a Republican because that's the way people lean over there in Kodiak). She seems honest and ethical, and if there was any justice, she would be the Republican nominee.

Cuddy hasn't really started campaigning much but this should help him out. There is also another Republican running for Ted's seat, a newcomer named Vic Vickers, who only moved up here in January. http://www.adn.com/news/alaska/story/478115.html I don't see him standing any kind of chance at all as Alaskans are notoriously isolationist, so much so that a lot of people even consider Ethan Berkowitz an "outsider" even though he's been here since the early '90s. I myself am supporting Diane Benson, who I know for a fact is not "owned" and has a titanium spine. That's what we need, I think.
