2. Horse-race coverage is like crack to cable pundits.
Remember how sick we got of Obama-Hillary, Obama-Hillary, Obama-Hillary, while other news went unreported? This is no different.

4. They Think This Is A Horse Race
Real news on American cable networks? Really? Where? Since when?

Yesterday you saw how poor our media has become in their over-the-top, but lack of any real substance in reporting what happened in LA. The networks came to a dead stop for several hours with pictures of broken water mains and little of anything else...but they sure were busy speculating what was going on. Fact free reporting...and CNN ends up getting "reports" from a bunch of their stenographers who just happened to be "on vacation". I wonder if they'll get time and a half for their "work". I was so "concerned" that Ed Lavandera's kids lost their place in the A ticket line. It was a real tragedy. Too bad they couldn't find a dead blonde to make the coverage complete.

Then it was back to the horserace...turning this election into a Reality Show and the "news coverage" like Sportscenter. It's not about issues or qualification, but strictly on popularity...numbers and spinners all happy to tell us that they know more than we do...no matter how wrong they are. But, hey GE or Time/Warner or Faux or Disney spent big money on these "experts" so they gotta use 'em.

I could care less who the VP is as well...I'm hoping Senator Obama waits until the convention and drives both the corporate media and DU crazy in the process. IMHO the entire VEEP scenario is full of shit...John Edwards sure didn't bring much to Kerry's campaign and IMHO, Mittens sure won't add much to Gramps campaign. The biggest issue...and one the corporate media has avoided...is the mess created by the current VP and how the next one fits in...will they have all of crashcart's powers or suffer from his largess.

Cheers...

:hi:

7. "..the mess created by the current VP"
And this is why it is such a topic.

I think that it started with Gore and had a bigger role in the Clinton administration than what previous VPs had. And, of course, Cheney does, too.

Thus, when a candidate is perceived as weak on a certain area (like maturity, in the case of Bush) a VP is supposed to ensure the voters that all sides will be well covered.

Whether we like it or not, this is a reality.
