Poll question: When it comes to the Knoxville shooting, if the media weren't controlled by the GOP...
Edited on Wed Jul-30-08 12:22 PM by ColbertWatcher
...we'd be having a conversation about...

Choice 1: what constitutes mental illness and the best way to get treatment

Choice 2: the dangers of hate in fringe groups

Choice 3: how bad the economy really is

Choice 4: a rational, adult conversation about gun control

Choice 5: a combination of the choices, if not all of them

Choice 6: Other, please elaborate in reply

1. A rational discussion of gun control.
Politicians are as afraid of the NRA as they are of Dobson's Focus on the Family. More rightwing minority opinions are being considered as more important than majority opinion.

3. I think that's due to the "fair and balanced" view...
...of journalism that says "give" both sides of the story despite how many people may support one view over the other.

It's kinda like how the GOP-controlled media always mention the "doubt" regarding global warming in every global warming news story, even though no real scientist doubts global warming.

2. Choice 5: a combination of the choices, if not all of them
These topics should be vigorously discussed in the media, but they are willfully burying it.

4. That's such a shame, too.
So many ways to cover this story without sensationalizing it.
