Does dismissing profs cleanse everything? What if managers and workers were educated by them?

I'm wondering why some totalitarian governments have simply dismissed professors based on considerations of class, ethnicity, religion, etc and done nothing about tracking the work done by all the people who attended classes that were taught by those professors.
