School To Put Students In 'Prison' Jumpsuits As Punishment

GONZALES, Texas. -- A school in Texas will force students who don't follow the rules to wear prison-like jumpsuits in a controversial move this coming school year.

Gonzales High School has new navy blue jumpsuits that students will wear if they break the dress code.

Violators will be forced to wear the jumpsuit for the day, the report said.

Some parents said the jumpsuits will make students feel like prisoners but the district said it's just a way to keep the children dressed appropriately for school.

A school board official said it's "worth a try" because it's a way to keep the district's conservative values intact.

1. The Schools "conservative values"...
Have nothing to do with education. They have everything to do with beating down the kids.

13. That's my guess, too.
Gonzales is a very conservative town, and I would imagine there is a good bit of local outrage regarding these kids running around looking like that.

Hell, if they want to look and act like inmates, put them in the real deal.

I am so tired of seeing those punks.

And I don't allow guys wearing baggy-ass pants into my Gallery.

11. You know they all will
They'll push it just to get into the jumpsuits, and then figure out some way to make the jumpsuits more revealing than what they had on to begin with.

I imagine a lot of people do. 'Prison chic' isn't confined only to the prisons anymore...

21. You can find it here:
http://www.gonzales.txed.net//index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=36&Itemid=1

Some of the items seem a little strict such as:

" All shirts will have a collar and sleeves."
"No cargo pants allowed."

However, for the most part, it doesn't seem unreasonable.

7. Ok, so if you can't get a kid in a uniform, how do you get them into
a jumpsuit? And what will be the penalty for not wearing the jumpsuit? My husband's school tried uniforms for two years or so, which should have been helpful to parents in the district, where 85% of the students qualify for free lunch. But the ultimate decision made was to cancel the uniforms because the students who didn't wear them just became one more discipline problem that didn't exist without the uniforms!

Assistant Principal. They have "Mr. X shirt" written on them in Sharpie.

Everyone who sees them throuhgout the day knows they wore inappropriate clothing to school that day. I have NEVER heard a comment or teasing from fellow classmates when a kid is wearing one. They really don't seem to care or feel stigmatized. It saves the time it would take to call a parent, who really may not be able to leave work tyo bring the kid a shirt.

They may have a real problem at Gonzales with inappropriate clothing. I have an idea! Maybe the kids could cover up to go to school, making the jumpsuits unnecessary.

18. I was waiting for that
Kids are smart, smarter than conservative value school board officials. Soon it will become fashionable to have a blue jumpsuit, which will probably be unwearable after one use (weak thread used by the supplier to sew the arms and pockets, you know).

"Conservative values" my fruit-flavored arse. When you hear that buzz-phrase, you know there's depravity just boiling to be exposed. It's only a matter of time; never any different.

Well, if they expect the kids to grow up to become Republican politicians, perhaps learning to wear prison jumpsuits IS a good training for their eventual future!

29. TBS will become the biggest gang in the school: The Blue Suits
Kids will buy their own suits to match, and in the end, the suits will become a symbol of resistance by kids.

Conservatives always assume that their punitive actions will not elicit responses which present them with new dilemmas. They always dream that their subjects won't vary their tactics for the new wrinkle.
