Bill Could Ban Facebook, MySpace At Libraries
Bill Could Ban Facebook, MySpace At Libraries
Wednesday, July 30, 2008 7:27 AM

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Congress is considering a bill that would ban children from accessing social networking Web sites at library computers without parental permission.

Supporters said the goal is to prevent sexual predators from contacting children, 10TV's Tracy Townsend reported.

Sarah Davenport told 10TV News that her family uses the library often and does not agree with the ban.

"I think the role of libraries is changing, and I'm not sure that's the role of Congress to interfere in that," Davenport said. "I think it's more of a parental decision."

Davenport's daughter, Lily, has a page on Facebook and said she agrees.

1. Ummmm! The bill sponsors obviously DON'T understand Facebook!
There is no way for a "predator" to contact a Facebook user! You have to be in a safe circle of approved "friends" to have contact on Facebook.

So, exactly what is this bill saving the kids from again?

Me? I think this is another move from the McCain side where the bulk of the audience truly doesn't understand how the internet works! Way to show your ignorance, John McCain!

2. Anything that helps keep kids out of libraries is fine by me.
Do you know how hard it is to sleep with ten teenagers tippy tapping on keyboards five feet from your head? Sheesh!

3. I have no problem with parental permissions
It isn't like internet access is life or death.
