President Bush's drug warriors must really, really want to protect their ability to throw non-violent marijuana users in jail.

The White House sent at least three party crashers to a press conference Wednesday with Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA), who has introduced a pot-decriminalization bill.

The Office of National Drug Control Policy's "chief scientist" and two aides who were dispatched to provide instant rebuttal to Frank and the bill's cosponsors, all of whom acknowledged that marijuana was likely to remain very much illegal in the foreseeable future.

Given the bill's essentially non-existent chances of passage, ONDCP's Dr. David Murray's impassioned arguments that seemed more appropriate in Reefer Madness were greeted with plenty of puzzled glances.

Why did the White House feel it necessary to send at least three staffers to Capitol Hill to place in every reporter's hand a copy of its 20-page, color-copied "2008 Marijuana Sourcebook?" RAW STORY posed this question to Murray.

1. I think one of them is running some of the prison programs and making
quite a profit off of it.

2. Because the, pharmacy, textile, and alcohol industries told him to?

12. Not to mention that, just like renewable Solar and Wind power . . .
. . . it's something the oligarchs can't profit in the billions off of. It can be grown anywhere by anybody. Just like the sun shines and the wind blows in most places on earth, TPTB can't own either of them. With no centralized control, there's no return business and no chance to be the master Monsanto and sell "terminator seeds" like they do with mainstream crops.

Healing, curing, preventing, solving problems and renewable resources are of no interest to the wealthy. If diseases were cured, where would their "sick" industry be? If energy independence was brought to fruition, where would the Dubai/Abu Dhabi/US Oil Baron gladhanding go? If we made clothes/fiber/bedsheets/covers that lasted, where would the paper/woodmill barons be?

A hemp industry would generate more small business start-ups than ever. Converters, mills, cultivation, processing . .. and that's something the oligarchs cannot stand. They HATED the 90s, when all of these new jacks becoming overnight millionaires on dot-com start-ups nosed in on their little club. They overcame that, and are mostly alone at the top again.

Think of A Bugs Life - "You let one ant stand up to us, then they all might stand up. Those puny little ants outnumber us 100 to 1 and if they ever figure that out, there goes our way of life! It's not about food: it's about keeping those ants in line."

3. There are two solutions to this problem
1) Drop tons of marijuana seeds from airplanes across huge stretches of American suburbs.

2) Genetically engineer e. Coli bacteria to produce THC, and release them into the environment where they will eventually come to live inside the intestines of all mankind, keeping everyone in the world completely stoned all day long.

4. Hysterical about the faintest whiff of a threat to BILLIONS AND BILLIONS AND BILLIONS OF DOLLARS
in failed, corrupt, murderous 'war on drugs' police state/military FLEECING of the U.S. taxpayers. That's why.

There is no "terrorist" like a 'war on drugs' terrorist on Capitol Hill and in the White House spreading fear throughout the land, bullying and warmongering and threatening the people about two innocent plants--marijuana and coca leaves. God forbid that people should medicate themselves with these benign, nutritious, versatile, ancient plants, gifts of Mother Nature. This awful "war" compounds the sickness of Bushitism/Global Corporate Predator Rule that is killing our country and our democracy.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ is why they send three nutcases to interfere with sane, common sense discussion. BILLIONS AND BILLIONS AND BILLIONS to eradicate that which is never eradicated and never will be. BILLIONS AND BILLIONS AND BILLIONS to poison the land with toxic sprays, to poison peasants and their children and animals and drive them from the land, so the big drug lords can move in, then Monsanto. BILLIONS AND BILLIONS AND BILLIONS to slaughter and torture peasants and their advocates, and to threaten and imprison vast swaths of the poor population in the U.S. on non-violent offenses. It is a form of genocide. And it is pure, unadulterated fascism of the most corrupt kind. A society that would do this would also sit idly by and let George Bush be president, and let him slaughter a million innocent people to get their oil. A society that would do this would fail to notice that their entire election system had been hijacked by rightwing Bushite corporations, now 'counting' all the votes with 'TRADE SECRET,' PROPRIETARY programming code.

Sick, and near death. That's where we are. And the guys with dollar signs in their eyes come running to our little press conferences, hysterically afraid that we might just wake up and start demanding common sense in our government.

7. The W.O.D., Inc. continues NOT because of the money, but because of this:
"It allows them to continue to use tools against terrorists that they used against -- that they use against drug dealers and other criminals." -- G.W. Bush at signing ceremony for Patriot Act II

http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2006/03/20060309-4.html

The War on Drugs has ALWAYS been first and foremost NOT about the money skimmed off illegal trade, but about domestic social control of groups deemed immoral and subversive, and about establishing a prototype policy to subvert the Constitution in the future.

The future is here, courtesy of that "back burner" issue, the War on Drugs.

10. I'm in the mood to say I think the more people in prisons
The bigger chance they don't need a draft. Scenario: Do you want to spend twenty five years in this prison? OR would you like (nicey nice) to serve your country? It's become a dammed if you do, (prison) and dammed if you don't, (Iraq: Blackwater. )

11. Barney should have handed out free copies of "Reefer Madness"...
both versions. It would have been just as relevant to the discussion.

13. I debated the ONDCP's "chief scientist" before the TN legislature this past winter.
He is dumb as dirt. Our legislators ripped him a new a--hole. What a doofus.
