Mom and Dad are now both in the hospital
They took her in a half hour ago with stomach problems. Dad went in last weekend with congestive heart failure.

I'm afraid to ask what happens next.

I was in the hospital in March, 2006 with congestive heart failure. They didn't think I would make it, and look at me. I'm still here. If you have any guestions concerning my recovery and what you might expect during that time, just ask.

I don't know how old you are, so I don't really know how to relate this to what my own children have gone through. Or what I went through when I lost my own mother at twenty-two. But here's hoping that your father and mother both do well and are home soon.

39. Make sure the doctors explain everything really well.
Start keeping a notebook--paper to write notes and lists of questions down on, a folder for anything they give you, and a folder full of important documents (lists of drugs, doctors, insurance info, etc.).

Hubby's at the hospital right now talking with family members of one of his patients. It's what doctors are supposed to do--and if you don't understand it, keep asking until you do.

Stomach problems have a million causes, so it's going to take them awhile to figure it out. There's a good chance it's stress over your dad's condition, and if that's the case, there are medications to help.

This is really scary, but you can do it. I have faith in you.

Hoping that this morning finds the situation in a much better light.

Please follow the suggestions from knitter4democracy. There is no way, under the circumstances that you find yourself, that you will be able to remember everything that is going to be said to you. Hopefully, you also have some support there with you.

Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.

54. Be Strong...
My most sincere wishes that all goes well and your parents both recover fully.

I had to deal with both parents in the hospital and I all but lived at the hospital. The important thing for me at the time was to have a clear head and be strong for my parents and family...keeping emotions in check and be prepared to do whatever is necessary for their comfort. One thing I did was to take a break every now and then...take a walk outside or go for some food...just a few minutes to decompress and refresh...and try as hard as possible just to go with the flow.

Here's wishing nothing but good things for you and your parents...
