Does anybody here watch the CBS News with Cutie Couric? |
|
Edited on Wed Jul-30-08 08:07 PM by MUAD_DIB
Not only is she god awful, but where is the news?
The last bit tonight was this feel good puff piece on "Who's happier: Men or Women?"
This segment was more in depth than the newsier parts of the show were supposed to be.
Well, if they will scrub a McShame interview clean of any gaffes then why would I expect anything less than spoon fed pablum?

In a move towards more hard-news coverage, CBS reported today that they will replace Cutie Couric with hard-hitting Rachael Ray. <smirk> <apology to Rachael>

11. Couric is an old friend of mine from her NBC-4 days in DC. However, lost touch. |
|
We both covered the Pentagon during Gulf War-1. We sat together, along with Wolf Blitzer, and often went to the watering holes together. She was a neighbor of mine in Old Town Alexandria too. Back then she was a quasi-liberal. Long time no see. I hate what has happened to her.

She sounds a lot like members of my family who've decided to shut the brain off and just let the dark side wash over them. Money? Intellectual laziness? This is a trend that deeply frustrates / disturbs me. We can't afford to just go stooopid.

the lure of the big bucks brought her to the darkside.
Look at what has happened to David Gregory. The minute NBC had him start to fill-in on The Today Show the same thing happened. Gregory was even on the invitation list to this year's Bohemian Grove.

That album was self-financed, so they made a lot of $$$ on it, which is why it took a while for another one. Just didn't see the need.

In this town, CBS is the lowest rated national and local newscast. Reruns of Urkel draw higher ratings. The "Tiffany" network has long lost its sheen (thanks to downscaling that began in the 90's and continues unabated today).
The Evening Newscast is no longer the major attraction it once was. WIth the 24/7 cable channels and a society that doesn't live by the TV schedule anymore, a lone network newscast is a dinosaur and the more a CBS attempts to "sweeten" just make it worse.
Truth is, I get my news from the web...and then turn on the teevee to see how badly the news is reported (or not) and spun...not to be informed but out of mere curiosity.
Other than David Letterman and 60 Minutes, CBS is a waste of electrons these days.

22. This is what I've observed: |
|
I have not watched network news since shortly before Dan Rather left. My network T.V. viewing, in general, has been very spotty since the 90's. I did happen across Couric while on vacation this summer and it was awful, full of hit pieces, fluff and detritus. What I'm getting at is network news has not been in a slow decline: It has taken a sudden dive for the worse since * took office. You see a huge difference between that crap and Jim Lehrer's Newshour. No comparison. The fact that millions of people consume that network crap has made me feel even more alienated from the mainstream.
