BREAKING NEWS: Parade Accident in Wisconsin WITH PHOTOS
Edited on Sat Aug-02-08 05:45 PM by AsherHeimermann
Its a very sad day in my hometown of Sheboygan, Wisconsin. A man is in custody after a high-speed chase this morning brought a premature and nearly tragic end to the annual Brat Days Parade in Wisconsin. Four people were hurt, although none of the injuries were believed to be serious. The injured included Capt. James Veeser of the Sheboygan Police Department, who was directing parade traffic, and a 7-year-old child.

Mario A. White, 21, is expected to be charged with operating while intoxicated causing injury after the car he was driving crashed at the intersection of North 14th Street and Erie Avenue, blowing a tire, hopping the curb and coming to rest on the sidewalk in front of Walgreens in view of hundreds of parade spectators.

According to the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Department, a 911 caller reported at 9:23 a.m. that a silver Mercury Grand Marquis was being driven erratically near Interstate 43 and county Highway 42. The car was headed eastbound on Erie Avenue at about 80 mph, straight into the route of the parade, which was coming west along Erie Avenue.

1. Asher, our thoughts go out to those who were there
Let's hope that the injuries prove to be minor and everyone is back to normal ASAP.

What a scary, scary incident.

2. The Very First Reports Were...
The very first reports were that a a 7 year old was killed and the citizens that were that, pull the man out of the car and hit him a few times and made sure that he did not run away from the police. As we now know, no one was killed and the report of the citizens pulling the man out is true.

4. From Wisconsin here - the number of terrible DUI's
continue to appall -- and many during broad daylight and usually after several DUI's preceding a horrible incident.

We must put these offenders in JAIL. The whole state needs to rid itself of the most powerful Tavern Lobby once and for all.

6. Three DUIs...
Many others as well as myself believe that once you got three DUIs, you can't drive for at least five years or more.

12. I, myself advocate a "three strikes" approach
On conviction of a third DUI offense, the person is PERMANENTLY banned from driving or having any motor vehicle, including ATVs, motorized boats and Snowmobiles registered in that person's name. If a person who has "struck out" is caught driving, Mandatory minimum of five years in prison, and the vehicle would be seized and sold at auction.

There is absolutely no excuse whatsoever for drunk driving. If getting home is ther problem, pretty well much every county tavern league in the state of Wisconsin operates a Safe Ride program.

9. You mean attempted murder?
If so, the answer is no, probably not. To do that you would need to prove intent to kill someone, which seems pretty unlikely.

11. Yes...
But how can this guy go right thru two warning signs; both warning of road closed and of a parade ahead, plus a set of cones that have a road blocked off because of a parade?
