ATTN: Possible cheating in Women's Gymnastics scoring (update: or not)
Edited on Sun Aug-10-08 07:43 PM by crimsonblue
I'm watching the Women's gymnastic qualifying on NBC, and the Chinese team is currently up. I noticed a discrepency in the scoring for Cheng Fei for the Vault Competition. The score that flashed on TV and that the announcers gave was 15.912. On the Olympics website, the scoring was 16.150. This increase in score gave Fei the top score in the event. Who, might you ask, came in second? Not to mention that Fei did not have a clean landing. Shawn Johnson with a score of 16.000 . Is this an accidental error or rightful rescore, or was this blatant score switching by the Chinese? I might add that the score on the NBC website agrees with the score flashed on TV. Why are the NBC and China website scores in disagreement????

below is the scores

---------------TV / NBC website score----------- Official Beijing Olympics website score
Cheng Fei------------ 15.912 ---------------------------------- 16.150

links for the NBC and Beijing websites:

Official Olympics website

UPDATE: ANOTHER DISCREPENCY--- Li Shanshan score a 16.125(according to the China site) but scored a 16.025 according to the NBC site.

Update: I'm stupid, I think. They only showed the second of Cheng Fei's vaults on NBC, and I guess she did get a 16.150 in her first vault (which wasn't aired on TV).

2. hubby really thought so with the boxing too. if nothing else just horrible scoring
he is a huge boxing fan and knows it well. says it was really bad. but then again it has always been like this with sports that get scored. why i always like my sport, swimming where there is a touch pad computerized to show exactly.

10. I didn't check the men's scores liek that, but I did think that Sasha got ripped off for
his pommel horse score. In the 15 range whereas comparable Chinese routines were 16s.

12. I dunno, but my husband and I have been commenting the whole time on how young they look
I just figured out that they had to be a certain age to compete. Some of those girls are extremely immature looking. And it isn't just that 'gymnast-y' thing either.

15. I'm not talking about score fixing
I'm talking about sheer score LYING. As reported on TV and the NBC olympics site, Fei got .303 "more" points on the official Chinese Olympics site.

A lot of the scoring is subjective- hence politics and favoritism easily come into play.

"What the heck happened there?" when teams get their scores and placements. We beat a team that aimed for more difficult stunts and whatnot, but we had more originality and fewer problems so we won our division. The other guys were actually pretty mad. :(

14. Possible cheating in a women's single sculls heat yesterday
They ana't keep the transmitter on their shell, but the Belarusian rower did -- it was noted it was a rule infraction and she should be DQed. She wasn't. She's the top rower in teh single sculls.

I am left with deciding who is more likely to cheat - the criminal IOC or the criminal NBC.

What a dilemma!
