1. She had only one line of thought ready to present re: tax & spend liberals
and when Thom asked questions that threw her off track she was lost.

She tried to use the Bible to justify that there will always be poor and rich among us and Thom answered with the Biblical quotes from Jesus about serving the poor -- I could virtually see her face turning red.

The end of the interview was particularly miserable -- she said that Headstart was a failure and when Thom responded with facts from the Pew Report about the successes of Headstart all she could say was, "That's the difference between liberals and conservatives."

:wow:

Thom definitely won that water-cooler war. :applause:

2. I love Thom Hartmann. I listen whenever I can, including today.
He's a superb debater, and his breadth of knowledge is staggering. I learn something new almost every time I listen.

6. I Think The Evangelical Right Ignores That Christianity Has A History Of Being Hostile To Capitalism
And the RW ignores the Bibles strong emphasis on social justice:

"If a man shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, he too will cry out and not be answered."

-Proverbs 21:13

"Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy."

-Proverbs 31:8-9

"No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money."

-Matthew 6:24

He who mocks the poor shows contempt for their Maker; whoever gloats over disaster will not go unpunished."

-Proverbs 17:5

"He who oppresses the poor to increase his wealth and he who gives gifts to the rich--both come to poverty."

-Proverbs 22:16

"Jesus answered, 'If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.'"

-Matthew 19:21

"He who gives to the poor will lack nothing, but he who closes his eyes to them receives many curses."

-Proverbs 28:27

Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will not be exhausted, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

- Luke 12:33,34

Indeed, liberation theology, which the Right Wing Christians consider leftist, is based on this quote from Jesus:

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach the good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord." (Luke 4:18-19)

7. Thom was trying to quote Matthew 25 to this loony toon
Where Jesus talks about "doing unto the least of these". And this crazy woman is talking about the Romans. Guess she doesn't even realize that JC was talking to the hypocritical right wing Jewish Pharisees at that time, not the Roman occupiers.

10. James 5:1-5, "Warning to the Rich"
James 5:1-5
Warning to the Rich

5:1 Come now, you rich! Weep and cry aloud 1 over the miseries that are coming on you. 5:2 Your riches have rotted and your clothing has become moth-eaten. 5:3 Your gold and silver have rusted and their rust will be a witness against you. It will consume your flesh like fire. It is in the last days that you have hoarded treasure! 2 5:4 Look, the pay you have held back from the workers who mowed your fields cries out against you, and the cries of the reapers have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts. 5:5 You have lived indulgently and luxuriously on the earth. You have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter. 3

3. I think she's from the Conservative Women's Network
If they sent their best to go up against Thom, they haven't got much. The "where do you cut the budget to pay the deficit" question is the show stopper. From there it's a game of wild mouse as she tried to find new places to make her argument. Unfortunately for her, Thom was already familiar with those routes. When she went to the Bible I knew it was game, set, match.

4. Actually, she's from the Independent Women's Network; obviously
a deceptive name for this right-leaning group.

5. link to SourceWatch page on Independent Women's Forum ...

Independent Women's Forum

The Independent Women's Forum (IWF) is an anti-feminist organization predominately funded by conservative U.S. foundations. On its website it describes its mission as being "to rebuild civil society by advancing economic liberty, personal responsibility, and political freedom. IWF builds support for a greater respect for limited government, equality under the law, property rights, free markets, strong families, and a powerful and effective national defense and foreign policy."<1>

An article by Sally Patel in IWF's "scholarly" magazine, The Women's Quarterly, stated that "the battered women's movement has outlived its useful beginnings."<2>

In October 2003, the IWF announced an affiliation with Citizens for a Sound Economy, now the Americans For Prosperity Foundation, with which they shares premises and staff. "The Affiliation agreement provides for staff and resource sharing between Americans for Prosperity and the Independent Women's Forum. Nancy Pfotenhauer, president of the Independent Women's Forum, will also be president of Americans for Prosperity," the announcement stated. Despite sharing staff and location, the announced stated that each group "will be a separate organization with its own board of directors."<3>

As of 2008, IWF is no longer affiliated with AFP and is seeking its own office space
