1. Pravda is a terrible source of accurate reporting.
I don't doubt that it's a real possibility, but I wouldn't hang my hat on Pravda's reportage.

10. Special one, Tom.
Every inch covered in tanks and trailing fuel bladders on teathers. A slight loss of speed, but Dear Leader came up with the configuration himself. :eyes:

USCGC Dallas (WHEC-716), a 378-foot high endurance cutter with a crew of about 175, was underway on patrol this past weekend when it received the order from the Atlantic Area commander here to head overseas. Dallas is deploying with an HH-65B Dolphin helicopter and 7-member aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, N.J.

Middleton, the port official, said that a Coast Guard cutter would arrive Wednesday and anchor offshore, likely escorted by the McFaul. The U.S. Navy said that the McFaul left Batumi on Tuesday morning and was conducting "routine operations" off the Georgian coast.

U.S. officials are flying in from the capital, Tbilisi, and arranging for trucks to travel to Poti to receive the humanitarian supplies, Middleton said.

The Dallas is carrying 38 tons of relief supplies, including bottled water, baby food, soap, paper towels and baby wipes, the Navy said. Crews in Batumi offloaded 55 tons of relief supplies from the McFaul, but U.S. officials it would be several days before the aid was dispatched.

22. oh really? ' Russia lashes out as U.S. ship arrives in Georgia'
not in bushworld they don't :eyes:

http://edition.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/europe/08/27/russia.georgia/

(CNN) -- A U.S. Coast Guard ship carrying humanitarian aid docked in the Georgian Black Sea port of Batumi Wednesday, as Georgia's Western allies renewed their criticism of Russia amid escalating tensions.

The U.S. Coast Guard cutter Dallas arrives in the Georgian port of Batumi.

The cutter Dallas bypassed its original destination, the Georgian port of Poti, which is controlled by Russian troops still in the country despite a cease-fire deal to end conflict between the two countries.

The arrival of the Dallas cames as Western leaders renewed criticism of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's move Tuesday to recognize the independence of two Georgian breakaway provinces, Abkhazia and South Ossetia -- over which Georgia and Russia have been fighting.

The move, which controvened a French-brokered cease-fire deal to end the conflict, was condemned as illegal by European leaders.

The 26 countires of NATO -- which Georgia is seeking to join -- greed on a joint statement urging Moscow to reconsider its decision, AP reported.

Russia has, in turn, criticized the U.S. program to deliver $20 million of aid to Georgia. One general labeled the move "devilish," according to The Associated Press.

13. France fears war over Georgia
http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2008/08/27/2347363.htm

French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner has told French television that: "We fear a war and we don't want one."

Questioned about a statement by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev that Russia was not afraid of a new Cold War, Mr Kouchner said, "If it's only cold, that's not a problem."

"If it's hot, we don't want it."

In an interview with French LCI television, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev earlier said that Europe would be responsible for any deterioration in relations with Moscow.

"If they want relations to worsen, they will get it," Mr Medvedev had said.

"We will do everything we can to avoid" a new Cold War, the President added.

"In this situation, the ball is in the Europeans' court."

Mr Kouchner also said Russian troops were about to "ethnically cleanse" the South Ossetia town of Akhalgori, which is also populated by ethnic Georgians.

"This is not acceptable," he said.

The European Union and the United States earlier heavily criticised Russia's recognition of the rebel Georgian provinces of Abkhazia and South Ossetia as independent states.

23. Second US aid ship arrives in Georgia

http://www.theage.com.au/world/second-us-aid-ship-arrives-in-georgia-20080827-441r.html

"Normally battleships do not deliver aid and this is battleship diplomacy, this does not make the situation more stable," Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in Moscow on Tuesday. "I hope people who deliver humanitarian aid would be choosy about how they deliver it."
