Hometown backs Sarah Palin, but mother-in-law backs Obama?
WASILLA, ALASKA - Sarah Palin's hometown rallied around her as mayor - now Republicans wonder if the rest of America will warm up to the surprise pick from cold country.

Though her mother-in-law has doubts.

Faye Palin admitted she enjoys hearing Barack Obama speak, and still hasn't decided which way she'll vote.

"We don't agree on everything. But I respect her passion," she said. "Being pro-life is who Sarah is."

Faye Palin said the governor never considered ending her recent pregnancy when genetic testing showed her son Trig, born in April, would have Down syndrome.

"There was no question," she said. "She was going to have that baby."

1. She DELIBERATELY forced Down's syndrome on her own child?!?!?
God, how I hate anti-abortion wackos. That poor child will suffer all his life, just because she was so selfish.

3. Do you realize people with Down's Syndrome do have a quality of life?
I completely stand by her choice to birth a child with Down's Syndrome. And what you're suggesting is eerily reminiscent of Eugenics. What's next? A child with autism? Asberger's? Who's gay? Yikes.

I am 100 percent pro-choice, but aborting a child because it won't be perfect at birth is offensive to me.

4. Offensive and sick. My son is autistic and severely mentally challenged.
I dare any piece of shit to tell me to my face that we should have aborted him.

7. To judge someone because they decided not to abort a child/fetus? That is sick.

I thought the term pro-CHOICE meant the freedom to CHOOSE either option. To think it's anyone's business whether a woman chooses to terminate a pregnancy and for what reasons . . . How thoughtless.

8. There's been a lot of brain-dead ugly here since being discovered by the DLC.
With fame goes farce. Rabidness knows no party.

15. I recently refused the test as well...
AFP tests can be inaccurate (the claims of false positives range from 5% to as much as 80% depending on the research) leading to the need for an Amnio or Chorionic Villus Sampling. Both Amnio and the earlier CVS tests run a 1 to 2% chance of miscarriage. CVS sometimes shows a Chromosomal abnormality which only a result of the fetus 10 to 12% of the time (It is usually from the placenta). Between this possibility and the occasional bad sample an Amnio is required. An Aminio also could result in a bad read which would require...you guessed it, another Amnio. After all this a woman is in her 19 to 28th week of pregnancy.

I refused the tests because of possible risks to an otherwise healthy baby. I informed my Dr. that i did not need the test because any result would not change that the child was wanted by myself and his father and would only add possible stress. If he had a disorder like Down Syndrome i would not have viewed it as a tragedy. I agree with you that there is SO MUCH BEAUTY in those with this DS. Such pure GOOD people. There is a lot more work involved with raising a DS child. But possible difficulties are one of the risks of parenting. Any number of things can happen in the course of a child's life that can create difficulties ie. accidents, illness, injuries...

14. She made a choice, and we should respect whatever choice that is.
If you get pregnant with a down's syndrome baby then you can have an abortion and there will be no criticism from me.

That's what being pro-choice--not pro-abortion--is about.

2. Palin not exuding confidence
She looks a little uncertain of herself in a lot of the video footage I've seen, and in the picture in the NY Daily News article, she looks really in over her head.

We should learn a lot about how she will handle national pressure from her speech, and my guess is she's going to have good ratings. See:

10. And who suddenly springs the news on their staff?
Any normal person would have been known to be pregnant for months. This smells rotten.
