Polar bears with 400 miles to swim to the nearest ice

Struggling against the waves, this polar bear faces almost certain death after becoming lost at sea in the Arctic.

It is one of a group of nine to have plunged into the ocean after the ice float they lived on melted.

The bears were spotted miles from their normal hunting ground by U.S. government oil survey scientists flying over Alaska's Chukchi Sea.

However, because of global warming, the ice cap has melted so much that it is around 400 miles away - too far for the bears to reach.

They depress me for days--and I am not the depressive type t all. I couldn't even see An Inconvenient Truth becuase I knew it would upset me too much. Same for .

out there to rescue these bears or these bears are gonna get shot from a helicopter....it's 'meat', ya know ~ waste not, want not :sarcasm:

(this was discussed already in another thread that I can't find the link to at the mo').....not that is has fallen down some hole of "not important", b/c it's been discussed already....

I hope these bears "make it", but probably too much time has passed already since it was first brought to our attention.....so, I'm not hopeful for this particular 'band of bears'. But, hey, there are still some other bears ~ and OTHER distressed creatures out there ~ who need our help/consideration.

That's a pretty HUGE/worthy job.
