To Joe Biden and Dems: Don't go there!
Over the weekend Biden said that there was another difference between himself and Sarah Palin.

He said that she was good looking. It was meant to be a light-hearted remark. However, this is the

kind of thing that can be used to say that the Dems patronize women and consider looks too much.

Stick to her experience, or lack thereof, and her record please.

I don't believe he was sexist, but that will be Rethug spin.

I want to smack my head across my face!

:wtf:

Nooooo! Palin is simply not fit for the position. She has no clue what she's getting herself into.

2. You Mean _You_ Don't Think She Is Good Looking??
.

Go there. The 'other party' is going to say,"...that the Dems patronize women and consider looks too much. ..." anyway. As Austin Cline wrote in his blog

http://patriotboy.blogspot.com/2008/08/we-have-never-had-uninsured-citizens.html

"... become impossible to parody or satarize conservative Republicans because there may be no position too ridiculous or too immoral for them to decide to adopt explicitly. ..."

The members of the Democratic Party who have something to say must realize that 'not saying' something will not stop the other party from claiming they said it anyway.

Go one the offensive and be as offensive as you want.

Ms Palin is good looking and attractive, even if she is a grandmother.

Universal Health Care is _not_ universal insurance.

3. I'm sure they will say anything whether a Dem said it or not.
However, that will play bigtime for their base, but not so much in general.

However, if they have footage to play ad nauseum of a Dem saying it, then

that will probably be a different matter to people. Say things about her record

and experience. There is plenty there to mine.

4. Democratic Party Must Play Their Game And Stay On Offense
.

Running a defensive game plan will only lead to a loss. Mr Obama and his team are where they are because they have run their game. Worrying about what the other people will say to their base will get you no where. This is the end game (if you will, it is time for 'two minute' drills).

Mr Obama has to keep the initiative by staying 'on message.' Ms Palin is a good looking distraction (even for a grandmother) but useful.

Mr Biden can be as dismissive of Mr McCain's choice as he wants. This puts the other party on the defensive.

6. How many times have Dems been dismissive of things and had it backfire?
They were dismissive of Bush. He was just a lightweight governor with no real experience.

They were dismissive of the swiftboating campaign until it was too late to effectively counter it.

They were dismissive of the notion that somebody would dare tamper with an election. They let the Rethugs
run roughshod all over them in the 2000 Florida mess.

They were dismissive of Ronald Reagan. How could somebody who was just an actor really be serious?
They didn't look harder at the times, his appeal or the fact that he had been a governor.

Now they are dismissive of Palin. Until the election is over and certified, Dems do this at their peril.
We can pile up all the evidence of everything under the sun. Maybe her past will catch up with her
bigtime and be effective. However, don't ever underestimate the ability of the American electorate
to be as shallow in voting as McCain was in choosing.Put a wooden stake through her heart or she could
haunt us.

Go on offense by all means. Don't dismiss her out of hand. She has a very, very low bar to reach.
Nail her on her record. Put he Rethugs on the defensive by hammering away at her abortion stance,
her ties to big oil, and at her being a heartbeat away from the presidency.

5. He compared himself to Obama right before comparing himself to Palin
It only comes across patronizing when people don't tell the full story.

and that was on national television. I didn't hear anyone from the MSM noting that. I figure if they try and pull that card out, we pull that video clip out.

9. And how will you point that out without making the public feel like it is
dirty campaigning. I see him looking at her ass, but will enough Americans
see it that unless it is shoved in their face.

12. Oh...
...but endless comments about Janet Reno and Madelaine Albright are ok? The GOP pulls this kind of shit all the time, all one has to do is look at the bobbleheads they foist upon the sheeple class on their pet network. Make a pretty girl say ugly things, and fewer people will object, more will accept it. Marketing uses models for a reason, and it's not just cuz the clothes "hang better"...

13. No it's not okay!
I'm just saying they better be very careful in attacking her.
You're right about a pretty woman saying "ugly things."
You better make sure that people connect the ugly things with her.
If people get caught up in looks, down the rabbit hole we go.

14. I was unaware mention of attractiveness was sexist.
Does that mean when women said Bill Clinton was attractive, they were being sexist? Learn something every day. Maybe if we want to stretch things, one could say he was discounting her credentials as a woman who has achieved but IMO, dwelling on the comment is a waste of time.

16. The republicans already opened that door by "using" a woman to play politics
If she had Hillary's credentials, I'd say yeah, don't go there. But she has nothing. She IS nothing. She's a prop. She's allowed herself to be the token woman and she is fair game in my book.

17. The Repukes define her as a beauty queen. They list that as one
of her accomplishments. How is it patronizing to recognize someone is attractive. He also said that Obama was more attractive than he is. It was a self-deprecating joke, which Biden does all the time.

18. What picayune bullshit. Any comment about another person's appearance is not 'sexist'
Edited on Mon Sep-01-08 08:35 AM by ThomWV
Don't be so god dam touchy. Some people actually are good looking and there is no harm in saying so. Just because you recognize that a man or woman is attractive doesn't automatically imply that any comment reflecting that fact does not automatically mean that you consider or wish everyone of the other sex to be your personal sex slave.
