oh fucking great. there aren't enough shelters for people
fleeing from Gustav. The same bullshit lines about not expecting so many people and so many with medical needs. People are being turned away from shelters. Just saw this on the ABC morning news.

1. Can any republicon plan their way out of a paper bag?
They can NOT plan anything. From wars to evacuations, republicons always surprise me by the depth of their incompetence.

3. The hurricane is weakening
It's now been downgraded to a strong 2 or a weak 3. This will be no Katrina, no matter how much hype. Go to the local stations, see for yourself: http://www.maroonspoon.com/wx/gustav.html

7. In need from what
the so called disaster turned into nothing more than a hard rain. There's no breach of the levy's, these people can go back home.

10. I just heard earlier that the authorities don't want them returning for
three days. Remember it was later that day when the levees broke after Katrina. We just have to wait and see to be safe.

8. This is a set up to have McCain come in and save the day...announcing

more Government aid and he'll make sure everybody gets help bullshit....

This Category 1 Hurricane (at worse) is a joke, and so are ALL the media people reporting on it pretending it's worse than it actually is...Another BushCo manufactured smokescreen (or hurricane-screen).

One reporter on the Weather channel desperately shouting over the rains, that the winds are trashing things all around behind him and then the camera pans behind him to show a single swirling little plastic grocery bag doing circles in the wind....This storm was a set up bullshit excuse...yeah, lots of rain and wind as than the usual yearly hurricanes bring....That's about it...But the republicans will make more of it than it is....this is obvious and media will go along with it they love it, brings in viewers (money)!

9. Boooshie's Already Taking A Victory Lap
Well, he's boasting things aren't as bad as Katrina...translation: he's not out eating cake and oblivious

He and the other GOOP-asses are ready to take the Mulligan even before the storm has passed...and the fact the city isn't flooded (yet), means how wonderful his corrupt regime is.

This is complete bullshit. It's too early to tell and it discounts a lot of things the people of New Orleans have done, without much help, that were hard lessons learned from Katrina in spite of what this regime did, not because of it. WWL Radio reported they estimated 90% of the city's population (which still hadn't recovered from Katrina) had evacuated...and the damage will be less since areas that are the most flood prone (Lower 9th) still remain wastelands of empty house shells and deserted lots.

Also, from what it seems, Gustav, while a bad storm, ws nowhere near as devestating in size and scope as Katrina. The surge, estimated at 10-12 feet is less than the 20-25 feet of Katrina and the storm moved quickly that, hopefully will mean less damage and a faster ability to react to any levee breeches...as well as a far more alert Army Corp of Engineers who didn't hop into action until after most of the city was under upwards of 20 feet of water.

The storm will be out of the NOLA area by early this evening...and then then lets see what develops. Remember, the worst flooding didn't occur until after Katrina itself had passed and people woke up with several feet of water in their homes.

It's far too early to start patting one another on the back here...and my fingesr are crossed that the precautions many took, due to the horrors they endured during Katrina, will spare this city and allow recovery to begin quickly.

11. This turning away of people has been going on since yesterday
When the local governments sit down to look at Gustav, they will have to address the problem of shelters.

12. The powers that be had a stupid plan. Near me, in SW Missouri, there is a shelter
capable of holding a couple hundred, maybe 100o people. Its empty. Evacuees were going to be flown in, but the plans changed, and now its for people who are fleeing by car. All the way to Missouri :eyes: Maybe they should have opened more shelters that weren't quite so far away, especially with the price of gas.

13. What they hell did they expect?
They told them all to leave and sent buses for those without transportation. People also learned from the last time not to take any chances. Poor, poor planning on the part of officials not to expect this.
