Palin "bridge to nowhere" line angers many Alaskans
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (Reuters) - It garnered big applause in her first speech as Republican John McCain's vice presidential pick, but Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's assertion that she rejected Congressional funds for the so-called "bridge to nowhere" has upset many Alaskans.

1. I've always wondered
who owns the land on that island.
If the bridge is built, they are gonna be mighty rich.
I guess they couldn't come up with enough bribe money to get it done.

2. Why would you build the damned airport on an unreachable island
in the first place?? It's not like Alaska is the size of Rhode Island..

or

Why not build the cost of the bridge INTO the airport cost, and build the bridge FIRST..might make building the airport a little easier too:rofl:

3. don't forget the *HUGE* airport on the island
it's got "international" in its name.

here's a question:
25% of the proceeds from Alaskan oil sales go into Alaska's 'Permanent' fund, and every citizen of Alaska gets a yearly dividend from it... why don't they pay for their own fuckin' bridge?

4. There were two bridges, and this article suggests that Congress
deleted specially designated funding (earmarks) for the "Bridge to Nowhere" and another $229 million "Don Young's Way" bridge in Nov 2005. The state got to keep the more than $400 million to use for other projects. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronic...

If Palin was elected in 2006, and the funding deletion was in 2005, does any of this mean that the potentially misleading statements have already begun, or did I read the SFGate article incorrectly?
