I only have dial-up Internet service where I live, so I only visit DU when I house-sit for an old friend. I actually signed up on DU when I was working for my freeper boss. DU was a godsend for me at that point in my life. Whenever freeper started in about how wonderful chimpy was, I tuned him out and turned to DU for my sanity. Now, my current house-sitting job has come to and end, and it will be awhile before I log-on again. The past 18 days have been heaven for me - being on DU during the Democratic Convention AND the Failin' pick. Thank you all for your intelligent and often hilarious insights. Until next time (probably in October), Muffin1 :hi: and

Why can't you use Dial-Up from your house?
I use it all the time to log on to DU.

2. The nearest library is about 30 minutes away. |
|
Hubby and I only have 1 car, and he uses it for work. Our computer is uncommonly slow - takes two to three minutes for ANY page to load (only text), if pictures are involved, well I could write the great American novel waiting for it! We are tinkering with our budget to see if high-speed is a possibility, but you know, times are hard!

7. Heres a thought on the slow part |
|
You may want to go over to the computer forum and see if you can get some help on ensuring that your computer is running at its best as I seem to think that you should be able to come visit here with out it being so slow as to not be tolerable. I used to be on dial up and am now barely doing better with our 40 bucks a month high speed dsl so I can sympathize with you. I think you'll find lots of good knowledgeable people who will be happy to help you along. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=242

I didn't even know about those sites. See? I learn something nearly every time I'm here.

I'd be willing to bet that I've been on DU about 5 or 6 hours a day. Stayed up way too late each night...there's always something new to read or watch! :)

9. Is yours as slow as mine? |
|
I tell you, by the time I'm able to respond to something, it's usually irrelevant. I click on something, then sit back read a page or two of a book or magazine before the (DU) page loads. When I respond to something and hit post, I can usually finish an article before it actually posts.:P
