Anyone listening to Tom Hartmann?
Edited on Mon Sep-01-08 11:36 AM by tularetom
He is not one to traffic in rumors, but he seems convinced that the RNC did not cancel their first day if the convention due to a hurricane.

He is of the opinion that the party was blind sided by the palin nomination and scared shitless that there is actually something to the rumors. Seems to feel that they don't believe McCain did any kind of background check and something will break that will drive a spike through the heart of their party.

On edit 9:36AM:

He's done with this for now but I got the impression that it was not just babygate but troopergate, bridge to nowheregate and god knows what other gates were gonna come out that freaked out the repubs. And when I first turned it on he was saying something about they had put out some sort of directive that nobody was to speak about her (and a reference to her being an "Eagleton candidate".)

6. Rumors at the RNC non-Convention as he calls it regarding the real
reason all the speeches have been canceled. It's because they don't know what to make of Sarah Palin and he thinks that she will probably asked to withdraw her candidacy. He thinks it has nothing to do with the hurricane.

11. Thanks for the info.
I'm sure they don't know what to make of her at all. My guess would be that the repugs have been hit with a terrible backlash from supporters over this selection. As far as rumors go there's lots more to mull over than troopergate or her daughter's pregnancy.

2. You (or Tom) may not be aware yet that they have confirmed that Palin's
daughter is CURRENTLY pregnant. Maybe they knew that would be breaking.

8. Also, oddly that no mention is to be made of the President and the Vice
President. It's as if they have been photoshopped out of the party. So much seems to be going on behind the scenes. Apparently this party is disintegrating. Thom mentioned that there would be no interviews with party nabobs because nobody seems to be there.

I just bet there has been an influx of hookers. The gay part, well, that is your own editorializing. I know the drill. If it is bad, we call it gay and then claim to be Progressive, just for fun.

15. If it is all true...and Bristol is now pregnant..I think that Sarah Palin was totally irresponsible
to subject her family to the obvious full-scale, public examination that would follow her stepping into the public spotlight.
It is the children that I feel sorry for....I am not sure if Ms Palin was pressured into doing something she did not really want to do - by her husband, perhaps - or she is actually so personally ambitious that she was willing to take the chance on humiliating her daughter this way.
No matter how it is sliced..this is a very sad, and uncomfortable situation.

18. If they're smart, they scaled back to keep Commander AWOL and Darth away
from any association with McCain.

Palin's mounting scandals are/were even more reason for trying to keep the RNC conference quiet.

It seemed pretty weird to me that the RNC convention is being scaled back so much because of the hurricane. So many compelling reasons for the RNC to suddenly get all "compassionate" (cough) and concerned to the degree that their par-tay needed to be changed into essentially a breakfast meeting between policy wonks - the WOT, the situation in Afghanistan and Iraq etc....

By stopping all activity, to me, it only spotlights even more how badly the Admin handled Katrina since it's such a dramatic departure from last time. In a weird way too, it's like McCain can't handle campaigning, a major bash in his honor (the RNC convention), and a domestic crisis that he isn't even tangentially related to (as a politician) at the same time.

somehow and the usual normal yearly hurricane season in the region, the republicans decide to use as an excuse.

This Category 1 Hurricane (at best) is a joke and so are the people reporting on it pretending it's worse than it actually is...Another BushCo manufactured smokescreen (or hurricane-screen).

One reporter on the Weather channel says the winds are trashing things all around behind him and then the camera pans behind him to show a single swirling little plastic grocery bag doing circles in the wind....This storm was a set up bullshit excuse...yeah, lots of rain and wind as the usual yearly hurricanes bring.

33. It's more than the Palin escapade...
...though I think the selection of this unqualified nincompoop for VP was a factor.

I mentioned in past posts and I still believe it to be true: the RepubliCANTS were completely caught off-guard by the success of the Democratic convention. Some polls gave Obama as much as an 8-point bounce, and with the Democratic pundit class and Obama's surrogates staying on-message (surprising, considering that trying to get Dems on the same page is like hearding a roomful of tabbies), it's not a surprise to me what has transpired over the last few days.

All I can say to the Repubs is: this is what you GET when you don't VET.

BTW, it's even been speculated that Palin was not Grampy's choice - that Lieberman was his preference. Anything to that?
